Okay, so I stopped by Target on the way home from work and picked up a couple packs of 2011 Topps.
I am completely blown away by two of the insert sets, and I'm never impressed with base Topps.
1. Diamond Anniversary parallel.
These cards feature an atomic refractor styled border/background and just scream "build me" for the set. Falling at a couple per box, it could be a fun quest.
2. Champions of Games and Sports minis.
This 50 card set is what retro sets should look like. Perfect for IP or TTM autographs while retaining a truly vintage feel in simplicity and layout. The backs were a total afterthought as they simply feature the player number, card number, team name and then the 50 card checklist, but these are great.
There are still some of the lame, over done inserts like the reprints, etc...but these two should generate some interest...at least with me.
