Or, the 25 greatest players of MY lifetime, basically.

I am going to do a blog series on my blog for the FCB community about the greatest 25 players of the last 25 seasons (1985 to 2009), but I do not want to be the only person who chooses those players. So I am opening up the voting to the FCB community.

A few requirements though:

--I was born in 1985, so the player may not have debuted before 1985 (Apologies go out to Ripken, Gwynn, Henderson, Ryan, etc.)
--The player(s) must have at least FIVE seasons in the major leagues
--The player(s) must have at least 3 consecutive GREAT seasons

Obviously a normal posted poll can only have ten options, so I will be doing the totalling myself, via everyone's posts.

I will post my own personal top 25 (in no order) and then I would like everyone else to post their top 25 and then total up the votes for every player listed.

After all is said and done (about a week or so of voting) I will total it up and the top 25 vote getters will be recognized and each will get their own individual blog post leading up to the greatest player of the past 25 seasons.

My top 25:

Albert Pujols
Barry Bonds
Alex Rodriguez
Frank Thomas
Randy Johnson
Greg Maddux
Ken Griffey, Jr.
Ichiro
Rafael Palmeiro
John Smoltz
Vladimir Guerrero
Derek Jeter
Mariano Rivera
Juan Gonzalez
Mike Piazza
Jeff Kent
Mark McGwire
Johan Santana
Roy Oswalt
Pedro Martinez
Manny Ramirez
Jim Thome
Jim Edmonds
Jeff Bagwell
Craig Biggio

Whose your top 25?

Hmm...trying to figure out how Frank Thomas isn't on your list?

I'll work on my list tomorrow.

edit: Does it matter what position they played? Example: Can I have 9 pitchers, 6 1B, 3 CF, 2 C, & 5 SS's? Or do I need to have atleast 1 of every position?

Do MVP awards count at all?

If so Morneau should be on there too

Damn 1985 Topps!!!!

I knew there would be some mistakes made. Editing my first post to exclude Clemens (really thought he debuted in '85...oh well) and replace with Thomas (I knew I was forgetting someone).

The first time I wrote it down I left out Jeter :(

He was in 1984 Fleer Update... so I figured he pitched in 1984.

It doesn't matter what position they played.

You could have 25 pitchers for all I care.

Just the 25 BEST PLAYERS, position not withstanding.

24. Trevor Hoffman
25. Adam Dunn

I like this list, with a few minor changes. I added Hoffman b/c you can't NOT have him; I swapped out Justice for Pettitte b/c he has been in the post season and a catalyst for the team for almost the entire decade of the 90s; and I swapped Dunn for Sheffield b/c besides Pujols, who's a better, CLEAN, power hitter in this decade?

Not really sure what you are basing your rankings on...

Roy Oswalt makes the list? Mike Mussina does not (Mussina is pretty much better in every category except ERA, but he does have those pesky 133 extra wins)

Well maybe you are going on shorter stretches of greatness as opposed to total counting stats...that's reasonable. So then how is Pedro Martinez below Oswalt on your list? From this era only Maddux can hold a candle to Pedro's stint in Boston, where from 1999 to 2003 his HIGHEST ERA was 2.39. Oswalt's lowest career ERA was 2.94 in 2005.

As for hitters this is where it gets pretty funny. Maybe you like Jim Edmonds 8 gold gloves, 4 All star games and 1 silver slugger. He was a nice player and a great one to watch flash the glove in center. So how could you defend the opinion that he is "greater" than Roberto Alomar? Alomar had 10 gold gloves, 12 All star appearances and 4 silver sluggers. That's minus 11 in Edmonds vs. Alomar in those 3 categories. Edmonds had more power and a lower batting average but Alomar also had those extra 400 stolen bases...

Further- Jeff Kent is high up on your list- and Barry Larkin is not!? I think I'll just stop there as I will get too worked up.
