If we are talking about making money, I'd have to agree. If not, I don't. As I recall, we had more than a few who were doing it because they wanted the ball for themselves despite any damage. I was merely pointing out a better copy could be had for a fraction of the normal price tag they see on Steiner. You want a $30 baseball for your collection, 9 times out of 10 you'll get one.

I'd also like to clarify that I am not calling anyone dumb for buying a ball like this. I just think if you know something, you might as well throw it in there. I just wanted to let folks know there are good deals out there minus the damage. You guys who are flipping them is really besides the point. At least the one I am trying to make. So with that, I'll shut my trap and you guys, the ones who kept the balls, enjoy them. The ones who sold them, enjoy the money.

I did both . And, I understand what you're saying. Steiners prices are very high usually. But, this thread really wasn't about anything except the 30-40 dollar Aaron balls.

Just wanted to say I got my ball today. This one was pretty bad, has 4 or 5 spots on it, which is ok, except for the one that is right at the top of the "H" in Hank. If it wasn't for that, I could live with it. All the ones on my Schilling ball were off to the side or back.

So I guess I will just list it on Ebay and recoup my money. It was worth the gamble after seeing what others got on here. I gambled and got a bad one.

Got mine in today and I'm very happy! The auto is just about perfect and better than most I've seen. There are some spots on the top and bottom of the ball but the sweet spot looks great.

As much as this baord preaches about quality, this thread must be an anamoly or something. Look, nobody is bitching. Of course Aaron is old. I think it all comes down to personal taste with these. Personally I would never consider buying a Steiner Aaron for $350, but for $40, with a decent shot it is the ball that is not in great shape, I went in for 3. Hopefully I'll get at least a couple nicer ones, they'll make a great incentive in school for my students, I can cut it up for a custom card, and worst case scenario I have a messy signature of one of the all-time greats for under the price of a box of Topps.

From the looks of his post below yours, it looks like Topnotchsy got my point. I didn't really expect you to get my point though Steve. Generally, you act very aggresive towards any of my posts.


My point was, first of all you guys are buying from steiner. That's usually a no-no unless you just like overpaying. I can get an Aaron ball right now for $150 and it'll surely be cleaner than some of these. Now I never said it was a bad deal. But it would be no different than buying a regular GU over a patch or a base auto not numbered over a 1/1 auto. Me, I generally will not give anyone crap about that. But I've had my ass reamed here for stating as much before and now all you are apparently okay with a crappy Aaron auto(not in all cases but in some). So in essence, you are buying something because it's considered cheap. Or are you saying you're not? Which is it? Because as it stands, he may one of the greatest hitters in the world, and me, I'd like to have something comparable to that. Something nice. Hey...if it was Mike Bourn, I'd understand.


If it's what you want then that is totally cool. I was simply offering my advice as an actual autograph collector. Something a lot of people here are not. And I can really tell. Because autograph collectors think a lot differently than most of you seem to. Already discussed this deal with just about everyone I have numbers for trying to see if anyone purchased any as I was curious to whether or not they had any luck getting a nice ball. Not one single person I have talked to got one. In fact, most thought it was a dumb deal. They couldn't understand, as I, the use in buying something with a noticeable defect. Now does that make it a dumb deal? To me it's risky. To a lot of you guys...no. Take that for what its worth.

Oh...and btw...I didn't buy one. I saved up a little money and got a nice clean Willie Mays auto with psa/dna as well as Say Hey authentication for $100. Want a scan, let me know. But there are far cheaper places to get autos than steiner. You might as well be buying cards off of MLB.COM. Or buying stuff from mounted memories. Seriously. This is a hobby for some of us and $48 DLVD per ball is a pretty damn good deal. In fact, being able to turn these around and make $40+ is not unreal. Not everyone is a perfection snob.

Steiner does have some very sweet sales from time to time. Even on game used teams they work with on occassion.

Agreed. When Steiner has game used sales, often their prices are cheaper than Ebay values.

Got mine in today and am extremely satisfied! Just a few spots on the top of the ball and one section of the "H" is smudged, o well. Well worth it for a HOF player that i probably never would have added unless something like this came along

My imperfect Ortiz came today, and I am very, VERY impressed. A few small oil stains are evident, but I could hardly notice them when I pulled the ball out of the box. Most of the stains are on the left side of the ball away from the signature, although one small stain is noticeable around one inch to the left of the signature. Regardless, I am very pleased.

For $20, this was a steal. No pictures as I don't have a digital camera or good cell phone camera.
