Time for another poll, this time for catchers. Obviously Wieters would be the top guy, but who would you vote for behind him? Please feel free to explain your votes if you like.

Arencibia.

Hallsgator? Is that you?

Ha, hey that gator guy is cool........I would definitely say Santana over Posey.
Wow, I feel so famous.

Just wanted to give people a better idea of how close this is...

Santana switched from an OF/3B to C full time in 2007, Posey also switched to C in 2007 after originally playing SS at FSU.

Both are good athletes for the position and both have very good defensive tools, but both are also understandably still a little raw.

Posey is about a year younger, but Santana is much more proven in the pros.

Last year was Santana's first great year, absolutely torching the Cal and Carolina Leagues. Last year for Posey was amazing, clearly better than his previous two seasons at FSU, especially in the power department. So both could be overrated based upon one amazing season, with a return to earth scheduled for this season.

I debated for a few minutes, refreshing my memory with their scouting reports, went with Posey by a hair because of the edge in athleticism. I questioned the pick after I made it, so ask me again and I may choose Santana. I mean Santana is a switch hitter too.

I like Posey both ability and ceiling wise. I just think as young as Buster is, he should fly through the minors. He will start at San Jose according to various reports, but I think that is phony. He will most likely start out at AA and he will make it quicker there than Santana did last year. I have invested in them both, so it doesn't matter. 8-)

My favorite catching prospect was omitted, but I like Posey better than Santana.

Posey 10 times out of 10. I think a lot of the "Posey hype" created after the release of BDPP has worn off, but I am absolutely huge on Posey. While Posey will never be the defensive catcher that Wieters is, I can honestly see him putting up numbers comparable to Wieters throughout their careers. I know many on here believe Posey has 15-20 HR potential, but I think he has significantly more power than that. *Puts on flame suit*

I picked Santana over Posey, strictly for his power ceiling and what he did last season amongst two leagues. The breakthrough and his overall season showed his true potential, should he continue his progression.

My two favorite catching prospects weren't listed, but I think one especially has a shot to be a long term solution for a good team.

I actually think Posey's defensive ceiling is higher than Wieters - he's only been catching for two years and is by all accounts a great athlete with a great arm.

Im not knocking Posey's defensive ceiling at all, and I think one day he can be an above average defensive catcher, but Wieters is an exceptional athlete who can throw 96 MPH+ off of a pitching mound. Im not sure if another catcher EVER can say that.

Again, if we're going on ceiling--not quickness to the majors--then Santana is the man.
i agree santana does have a huge ceiling, but i also think posey has just as big of a ceiling. look at his college stats and then won the golden spikes award (previously won by david price and tim lincecum).
metal bat=no problem...

Posey was FSU's closer as well - he threw in the low 90's. Mauer also threw in the mid 90's in high school.
