Re: 598.

i love watching mo pitch. to know what he is going to throw and not be able to handle it would be the most frustrating thing ever. excuse me second most frustrating thing ever. having the ball cut onto your handle and explode that stick in your hands would be the most.

I thought Jorge would catch the ninth inning for Mo's 600th save..Maybe he will catch the record setting save?

Maybe Girardi will become player/manager for that game to catch the record tying game, and let Jorge get the 602. Bookending his batterymates again....

(We all know this will not happen but.... would be kinda cool)

Whats the big deal? Hes not the only one w 600 u know.

I think a bigger deal w tim wakefield's 200 wins should be made.

after all, how many people named "tim wakefield" have 200 wins ;)

Or took, what 7 or 8 attempts to get it? More amazing with Wakefield is the career path he took. At least Mo gets to share the date with him 8-)

He is the best there ever was at his position.

not to discount your statement/opinion but give me John Rocker in his prime, before he got pushed out of baseball for his "insensitive" remarks towards women and, i believe, asians. Rocker v. Rivera, I'll take Rocker everytime. I know yall will flame away about his off fields activities, but none of yall will say anything about his performance on the mound. He was rivera before any of us knew who rivera was.

Jim as a METS fan I remember this a bit better, it was the gays with aids riding the #7 train to shea comments that got him in trouble moreso.
But he was never the same again.
He didn't have the skin that "Larry" had with the ny faithful.

As an interesting twist of fate I believe Rocker did in fact end up pitching in NY albeit for the long island Ducks.

He had his moments, and he was an exciting player, but... I think that even had he never made those comments, he wouldn't have had 600 saves in his career. I would prefer the pitcher with longevity to the one who is really great for a few years...

Wait, I'm confused.

Rocker's best year (1999. His "prime" I assume) he pitched 72.1 innings, saved 38, had a 1.161 WHIP, and a 2.49 ERA.

In 1999 Rivera pitched 69 innings, saved 45, had a 0.884 WHIP, and a 1.83 ERA.

Not to mention, in 1999 Rivera had already had two seasons as close better than Rocker.

I'm guessing you were joking, but I'm not sure. :?
