Here is the Sample printing plate I got in 1997, it was included with the order info. I'm not sure if these are the same plates that were inserted in the product.

The big Beckett says that there's only 4 1995 Select Samples (Alomar, Bagwell, ARoid, and a title card), and they're marked as such. Could be just regular base cards they sent out?

Thanks for your reply, you are correct I have that pack still unopened with Arod on 1 side and the info card on the other. These cards were sent loose along with the full checklist and case order form and other literature. After the product was released they sent me a 25 ct. box of Nomo for ordering the case. I still have a few of those Nomo's left. Score did some very weird things over the years including sending out random cards some marked Promo or Sample some with corners cut off others with slight variations or missing stats. They also sent out custom Christmas cards with players like Mantle on the card.

Here is the pack mentioned by bacon above. If anyone would like to show a scan of the back of the Ripken or Griffey feel free.

Thanks for the reply. My plate must have be test production run then sent out as a Sample, I doubt they had a production run of 5 + months.

The 1997 Pinnacle Press Plate Previews were the first press plates ever officially released. Here's what Beckett has to say about them:

"These cards were issued by Pinnacle to preview their Press Plate concept introduced in the 1997 New Pinnacle brand. Cards were actually distributed as chiptoppers within sealed cases of New Pinnacle. The cards are made directly from the printing plates from 1997 Pinnacle baseball. The card backs contain a number, of which dealers were supposed to find a matching number on their actual cases. The one lucky dealer that was shipped a matching case and card combination won a special prize package for their shop."

The 1997 New Pinnacle Press Plates, like Fandruw25's Joneses, were the first ones released in packs. What Beckett has to say about them shows just how highly press plates were regarded back then:

"Randomly inserted in packs at the rate of one in 1,250, this all-aluminum set consists of the Authentic Press Plate that transfers the ink to the cardboard for each individual card back and front. Each plate displays an authentication seal on the back along with the personal signature of Pinnacle Chairman and CEO, Jerry Meyer. Each card has eight press plates for each of the four colors used in printing the front and the back. All cards from both the regular sets as well as the insert sets were inserted into packs. A collector who put together any combination of the four press plates from the same card front or back could return the plates to Pinnacle by August 22, 1997 for a bounty of $35,000. A sliding reward scale was imposed with a $30,000 bounty for plates received by August 29, 1997, $25,000 for those received by September 5, 1997, and $20,000 for those received after September 5 but before December 31, 1997."

Excellent info. I wonder if there are 3 versions. I never order the product so mine might not look the same as the case topper. Anyone have a dealer case topper plate they could put up a scan of?

What is the difference between the Promo and reg. issue? Is it marked promo on the back or have a variation?

I may be wrong but I believe the differences are with the trademark next to the leaf logo and the top of the leaf logo has an extra line on it.

That is true. I don't know what else as none of the Thomas collectors seem to have one. I grabbed this pic from eBay awhile ago as it sold within 30 mins or so of being listed. Anyone have any more info or have one theyd like to sell please pm me. Also is there any other players that were issued?

Posting this here and in the main promos thread.

I mentioned many times previously that I had owned a card shop for most of the 90's and early 2000's and had many promo's packed away among all the cards that sit in my garage. I went through some today and found about a hundred different promos for sports and non -sports. There are hundreds more packed away and it will take some time t uncover them all but this is a small sample of what I have found so far. Here are the baseball ones I found.... FYI all are FS if someone has any interest.

not a 90s promo but close... references chippers 1999 season on it...looks to be a 2000 promo for the 2001 issue. (anyone with more knowledge feel free to chime in!) found this at a local cad shop in columbus ohio while up here on vacation this week.

fleer, brushstokes(?) 5x7 painting. 2100 total issued with 2000 numbered /2000 and then 100 promo samples numbered out of /100 PS (this is #35/100PS) was sent to the shop as a sample many years ago.

anyone else seen these of their players or got an idea what a decent price on one of the promo samples was? think we got it for a decent price but on the higher end of what it might sell for normally.

edit: ignore the revolution card its just a #/49 insert from 99

also picked up a 1999 revolution quinten mccacken. has an embossed "premier date july xx 1999" embossed stamp on it and the back is serial numbered #/49 promo I am guessing? anyone have any other 1999 revolution cards like that ? wondering if there is a maddux. will post up a photo once we return home I just grabbed this one since it was cheap

These are not promos as they were sold my Fleer back in the day. I believe the retail on them was 24.99 and I believe dealer cost was like 10 or 15 bucks. I dont believe they went over well because I remember buying a boatload for my store at the time and was able to get them in bulk from one of my distributors. (Oddly enough, I think I bought these from the Edgeman.....Brian Gray's company at the time). These were all sold separately and I think I might even have a Frank Thomas still laying around here somewhere. FYI These were sold already framed and came in a box.
