I've only ever had good expierences with Mr. Toree. I am not going to defend him or anyone else that someone you could call out, but you have to realize that although some of them don't act like it, atheletes have good days and bad days, how would you like it if someone judged you off of one expierence. I know i wouldn't like it if someone caught me on a bad day and thought of me just off that one expierence. I don't know Joe and neither do you, so anyone that might come in here that calls him names I think is in the wrong. Again not defending him or any athlete, it just gets on my nervs when someone talks down about someone's charactor of one expierence. I might get flammed for this, but I really think that for someone to be an a-hole you gotta give them a chance to be one..

I agree 110%. People think that when they ask for an auto or picture it's Ok because "it's only one", but when 100 people a day do the same thing I am sure it gets real old. These people want to have normal lives just like the rest of us. If you want an auto go to a show or maybe a ballgame and try, but let them alone when they are doing personal things. He wouldn't need the bodyguard if it wasn't for losers chasing him for autos and pictures 24/7.

PS I am real sure you telling him to stay away from KY is really going to break his heart.

I agree with most of that. But this isn't the 1950's where these coaches are making middle class type money. Joe Torre is filthy rich because of "joe fan". If the doesn't realize that, then he he is a total moron. If you can't deal with the fame, and treat the fans right, then don't get into the profession.

I don't know Matt, he's a baseball guy, its a different kind of intellegance as you and I both know. Torre is going to be in the Hall of Fame because has gotten a lot of respect and ability out of his players and he also has had LOADS of talent play for him, and he walked into a situation that was completely ready to win in 1996. Not being disrespectful, but I didn't think it was much of a hard task to get that speceific team into the playoffs in 1996. I do see your point, there is a responsiblity that comes along with having talent or fame, the sad part is, is that you cant act however you want whenever you want. Often times people think you owe something to them because you are in the spotlight. I still have no comment on wether he is a ****** or a good guy, whenever i've asked for an autograph from him i've gotten one and I've liked the teams and players he has managed so I don't have much negative to say about him..To the OP, I don't know if a horse stable is appropiate place to ask for an autograph, I don't know what kind of mood Torre was in, and I am sorry you had a bad expierence, but please dont condem a person for not signing an autograph for your bud.

Guys --like I have said---I didnt ask anybody for an auto---I said I wouldnt have put myself in that position. The guy works at the stable where Torre has his horse---The guy was a fan when Torre played for St Louis---I shared the story--it seemed a little rude.

Taking care of a mans horse poo--seems deserving of an auto.

Yeah...well try using that little rule in the real world as it applies to real people. Don't take this personally because it really isn't aimed at you and the OP is only a starting point for what I am saying but this line is total BS and a half. If I or you meet someone for the first time and we act rude in any form or way...we get judged. Try as you might, it will happen. And sadly, you only normally get one chance. If I have a customer come up to me and I act rude in any way, you think they are going to wait around for the next 20 minutes to fully decide wheter I am an A-Hole or not? Nope. Try going into a job interview and pulling that stunt. Or meeting anyone anywhere. You don't get second chances to make a first impression. I seriously doubt Joe loses much sleep over this but it is a fact regardless.

As far as being obligated to sign anything...I could see if there were a ton of people trying. But one person asking is too much? One thing I don't think these guys realize is that while they may say "Not today...I don't feel like interacting with fans today", it might be completely impossible or improbable that the fan might actually get another chance like this again. So you have one guy who just isn't feeling up to it and another who is looking at it like a rare opportunity. In my eyes...I'd at least stop and take the 10 seconds and make somebody happy. Help somebody accomplish something they may not have a chance to accomplish again. How many road games do you figure the Dodgers play in KY?

I just get miffed at all the times I have seen a player say I'll come back out and sign, and they never do. Those fans walk away unhappy. For the athlete, they don't care because there is always tomorrow and more fans will always want autos and even if the player feels crappy for rejecting a few, he may sign that many more the next day. But the same fans who got denied, hell...what if that was their only game they ever got to go to that season? What if it was the only game they got to go to where that player was there and they could get an auto? What if they couldn't afford to buy an auto of that player? Not saying every player should accomodate every fan since its damn near impossible. But they might try changing their frame of mind a bit. Might help them see things a little clearer.

But please don't expect a fan in the situation above to feel okay about what happened.

I live in Louisville - home of the Kentucky Derby. So a few days ago Torre flys in to check on his glue factory baby Homeboykris (Derby pretender)---I have a friend who works the gate entrance on the backside where the owners and trainers hang out. When Torres limo came through they were nice enough, and he pointed them towards Homeboykris stall. One of the guys that works out there is a life-long fan of Torre so he walks up and ask "Mr Torre could I get an autograph, I am a huge fan of yours from your playing days----Torres response was No, I dont sign autographs--My buddy then ask if he could get a picture with him --Torre's response was to turn to his bodyguard and let him say "NO PICTURES". Hey Joe, that might be the way you do it wherever your from---but in Kentucky we are a little more accomadating for a simple request---If thats how you do things---Dont come back! --Not sure you will be getting any special stall priviledges here in KY.

Signed...

Not how we do it in Ky.

If you're at the ballpark that's one thing for him to be a *****, but when he's at a somewhat private place then thats another. He was in place for owners and trainers, not walking around the grandstand with the public. You and your buddy were owed nothing.

I think your buddy is a bit of a ***** for expecting him to sign anything just because Joe happens to have a horse where your buddy works and I think you're a ***** for coming on here complaining about it.

I am not condemning Joe Torre. I wasn't there and have never met him. I guess I am just tired of hearing bad things about all of our beloved baseball players. Maybe I have been a little harsh, I am just annoyed with it at this point.

If things were really that different in KY, wouldn't you have just wished him luck and gone on with your day, rather than bitching about it like everyone else from anywhere who ever gets shot down for an autograph?

Don't get so worked up, like you said, we're entitled to our opinions. Obviously I don't know you...and you don't know Torre. First impressions are everything and you were coming across as a ***** and after that post, I still think you're *****.

He showed up at the horse track in Kentucky in a limo! That doesn't sound at all like somebody trying to blend in and have a normal life. Joe Torre isn't THAT famous, I bet if he showed up in a rental car with no body guard nobody would have asked him for an auto in the first place. Probably would have went like this...

"Dude, is that Joe Torre?"
"Dude, at a horse track in Kentucky!?"
" "
" "
