Adam Dunn might hit 600 HR, would he make the HOF?

Well he said....ANY player, more than 500, and not in the hall so..

Jim Thome
Frank Thomas

Given that people aren't trying to pull Pud Galvin out of the hall or ever mention him this PED thing is just a fad that will fade. One of the big 3 will get enshrined this year and then no one will care in a year or two.

That's elligible. Figured it was understood. My point was, a clean 500, or a perceived clean 500 anyways, is the magic number it seems.

I don't necessarily think going by how a guy looks determines whether he uses or not. But in some cases, it's laughable. Pretty much why I got Bagwell pegged as a user. Compare 1991 to 1994 to 2001 to current day. Kinda weird looking.

As far as Frank, he was always one big ****.

Hit #40 and #41 today....now has 406 in his career and this is the 6th time he's hit 40 HR and 2 other years he had 38. Crazy. he might make the HOF despite his putrid average.

He's known to be exclusively a power hitter. 1b, DH, whatever. You have to consider him if any DH makes it in. Been one of the top 5 power hitters of the last 10 years. Pujols also hit for average, but Dunn is almost right there with homers. He has one job, and he does it well.

First 200 strikeout season this year [surprisingly]

He's a poor mans Reggie Jackson without the postseason success, it will be a sad day if Dunn ever makes the hall.

You can thank the likes of Jim Rice if Dunn does get in... Borderline players have as good a shot as ever now just ask Omar Vizquel who wouldn't get any real consideration before the PED scandal.

Instead of laying this on "borderline" players, maybe this should be put on the MLBPA and the players at large. Steroids and PEDs were banned in MLB in 1991. The MLBPA fought testing for years. I would say the players were already doping and didn't want to be failing tests. It took 12 years and players failing random tests to kick in actual testing.

I think that is where the real problem comes from. The steroid/PED problem has been going on longer than people think. The players were able to put off testing for over a decade before they finally started getting busted.

Adam Dunn is not a great hitter by any stretch of the imagination. He is a great power hitter though. Everyone focuses on strike outs and batting average, but ignores his solid OBP and power totals. He has over 400 home runs, over 1,000 RBI, over 1,000 walks, a career slugging over .500, OPS .872, and OPS+ 126. Outside of batting average and strike outs, he has good numbers. He's not half as bad as some people on here make him out to be. He also has 0 ties to steroids. His name has never been mentioned.

If he gets to 600, he's a lock. I think 500+ gets him in, it may take 10 years, but 500 will put him in.

Yes, it goes all the way back to the late 60's.

I know there were players using and experimenting back then, but I don't think it was nearly as big of a problem as it became in the 80's. I could be wrong on that, but I think use boomed in the 80's.

Well, congress thought it was a big enough problem to investigate it in 1970 and they found the use of steroids in baseball startling.

I wasn't arguing with you, just explaining what I thought. It truly is no surprise that it has been a problem that long. Players are always looking for an advantage.

He'll eventually get in if he hits 600 home runs. May take several tries and the help of a weak class but he has a good chance.

No, I know, I was just saying. And yes, as long as they are around they are going to be used. For the simple fact that they work.

Exactly right. With the "designer" PEDs, they'll be able to stay a couple of steps ahead of testing as well.

The fact that there are one dimensional players like Ozzie Smith in the Hall says to me that one dimensional players like Dunn will absolutely make it too.

Maybe, but fame matters here. My mom knows who Ozzie Smith is (and did during his playing years). She has no idea who Adam Dunn is.

Well, they honestly dont even need designer drugs. You can easily be on a cycle and pass the MLB, NFL testing.
