Well if the White have him now while he has a .220/.370/.510 split with 40+ HR

that means...

the Rays will have him when he's 38 with a .188/.333/.477 split with 20+ HR:lol:

I sure hope so!

By no means do I think Dunn is a HOF lock or anything, but some are getting cought up on statistics that just do not really matter this case. Dunn is an offensive nightmare and when it comes to scoring runs, there are not too many better or more consistant. When it comes to offense, the name of the game is to either cross the plate or drive runs in, period. This year, Dunn is projecting to score about 100 runs and drive in 120+. If any of you think thats a decline in offensife production, you are looking at the wrong stats. Keep in mind that some use statistics like a drunkard uses a lamp pole to lean upon to stand, others use them to actually shed light. At 32 he is showing zero signs of production (producing runs) and infact is on pace to put up some of his most productive, run producing, numbers yet! THere is no reason to think he can not continue to keep on producing for years to come and ANY team would LOVE to have his scoring production in their line up.

Sure if you don't look at last year where he played 81 games at DH, hit .159 with 11 HR's, there's no reason to think he cannot continue to produce for years to come for any team.

The thing I would be interested to see is not how many runs he's created, but how many runs were possibly lost because the dude is a windmill. Looking at this year, his "clutch" stats are awful, his 2 out stats overall are even worse. I mean sure I would love to have someone that you know exactly what you get from him, but if the White Sox make the playoffs he may not be who you want at the plate in a key at bat.

Have to agree with HPC, I thought when the topic was made he would have been closer to 600 HR, but he's a heck of a long ways away. Should the next topic be Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Adrian Gonzalez, or one of the Reds power hitters be if they hit 500-600 they make it to the hall too?

I see what your saying about runs lost, but lets face it, if Dunn could capitalize on what he has missed as well, we would be looking at Ruth reincarnated. Instead, I try to focus on what he has done and that is add 1.06 runs to the score board per game (on average) this year! And this is prettymuch his legacy... Sure he strikes out in epic numbers, has a low batting average but put in to context these numbers are insignificant against the total, and important, numbers. He has a lifetime OBP of over .370, that means he is getting on base 37%+ of the time he comes to the plate and producing a run per game. Everything else is just calculable metrics that really shed no light on a hitter like Dunn. What he hasent done pales in comparison to what he has/is doing and that is adding points on the board as good as anyone in the game.

Well atleast Adam Dunn has put in over a decade of baseball and has the track record of putting up big homerun numbers. The more Ridiculous threads are the ones comparing Hofer or legends to players who have not even played a year or played maybe a couple years. Or asking if a guy can be a hofer after only playing 3 or 4 years. Dunn is close to 400 Hrs and is still fairly young so to me this is a legitimate thead asking a legitimate question obviously anything can happen (injuries being the worse) but atleast he looks to be on pace with enough years in the MLB .

According to baseball reference his defensive WAR is -24.9. If that isn't among the top 10 worst of all time I would be pretty surprised. If he makes the hall of fame it would be ridiculous with his .250 average. He has been so overpaid his whole career his awful defense and lack of average outweigh the positive, being his home run totals.

The only way Dunn makes it in is if he hits 600HR, and even then I dont think he would be a first or second balloter.

He has horrid defensive numbers and average (if you can call them that) offensive stats. Combine that with an insane amount of strikeouts and its a recipe for a guy who just hits alot of home runs and strikes out in 33% of his at bats.

But once again, itll be at least a decade before hes even on the ballot

Big dude in your sig is at -10.4 through 1044 games (dunn at 1670 games) so don't give up hope. Your guy has a shot at dethroning him.

Technically 1514 games....

Tonight Dunn is 0/5 7 LOB....surprisingly he has not struck out yet.

/thread

This guy is an expert, having extensively studied Ryan Howard. I almost forgot who the thread was about, and actually thought I was reading a post describing the great Ryan Howard.

I do not care if a player has a .180 liftime Avg and a full time DH and sucks in the field. Reggie Jackson holds the most strikeout record [2597],sucked in the field has 563 HR's and a .262 batting avg.soooo a guy that hits 600 HR's and in no way tied to P.E.D.'s that does not make the HOF.What the hell is wrong with ya'll. NUMBSKULLS!
Buy the way Dunn will be lucky to get to 500 HR's much less 600.
P.S. The WIZ sucked at the plate and is a HOFer. 28 HR's and a .328 SLG. that truly sucks!

The wiz is considered the greatest defensive SS to ever play the game and he didnt suck at the plate. He was a good hitter for a SS.

For as much as he strikes out and as bad as his average is, he has a higher OBP than Ichiro Suzuki. Not to mention that he drives in close to 100 runs a year. Not saying he is a hall of famer, but you cant just look at stikeouts and BA.

Yes, their numbers may look 'similar' now, but what about at the time when Dunn retires? That could be several years from now, and I'm willing to bet they are not as close as they are now.

Again, I don't really like Killer v. Dunn comparisons. Killebrew was easily the best power hitter of his era, led the league in HRs several times, RBIs a few times, etc....MVP and multiple top 5 MVPs. Oh yeah, was 5th all time in HRs when he retired!! So yes, their splits might look similar RIGHT NOW, but they are nowhere near the same players and it's not fair to compare the two.

Easily the best power hitter of his era? The same era that included Mays, Mantle, Aaron, Banks, McCovey, Frank Robinson, etc.

Most people don't intentionally walk Ichiro due to his power bat so it's hard to give too much credence to his OBP.

Of all the walks in his career - Adam Dunn has been intentionally walked less than 10% of the time - and even 10% of the time (109 IBBS)...you can't take that away from him b/c managers/pitchers didn't want to PITCH to him in that situation - they feared him in that moment...

I mean are you going to discredit all of Barry Bonds walks too?

They may not be scored an IBB but I've seen several of them that might as well have been. Just because he doesn't go Shaq Thompson on a ball 5 feet off the plate doesn't mean he's some incredibly patient hitter.

If his OBP is due to the fact that people are afraid to pitch to him than yes, you do give credence to his OBP, bc part of his high OBP is due to his power.

Haha, dude...give the guy some credit...geesh. It's okay to say he's not a HOF, but you are completely undermining his accomplishments.

I am incredibly biased when it comes to the Dunner. If he makes it to the 600 club, he's a shoe-in. Making 500 will probably get him in.

Yes, he strikes out a lot and he has a low batting average, but that doesn't mean he's horrible. He is much better at 1B than the outfield. I'm not saying he's GG caliber, but he's not atrocious at first.

Most people say a high OBP is a good thing. Evidently that is accurate for every player but Adam Dunn. People still use that to tear the guy down. Heaven Forbid the guy walks and gets on base. That's total BS! People selectively choose when something is a benefit or a negative.

He's a masher. He admits that he tries to hit everything out of the yard. IF he makes it too 600 home runs, following his 162 game average, he will be around ~2,200 hits. So it's not like he doesn't ever hit.

Here's another fun one. Again, using his 162 game average and saying he does not add any more stats this season, it would take Dunn 4.9 seasons to reach McGwire's 583 home runs. If that were to happen, he would also have more hits, runs, RBI, doubles, triples, walks, stolen bases, and total bases. His batting average and slugging will be lower, OBP will be pretty close. The only reason I use this comparison is because there are plenty of people who think McGwire is worthy of enshrinement, but laugh at the idea of Dunn potentially making it.
