The news out of St. Louis keeps getting worse. Things just got a lot easier for the Reds, Brewers, and Cubs.

As a Cubs, I hate to say it but I am :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I don't wish injury on others, but now that he is hurt, that is nothing but good for my boys

Big blow for the Cardinals. They couldn't make the playoffs last year with him, so it is tough to imagine that after adding Lance Berkman and subtracting Wainwright the 2011 season is going to end up any better for them.

It is certainly going to make things harder, but a lot depends on how well David Freese performs as well. He was off to a really good start last year before he got hurt. BTW....have you seen Lance Berkman this year. He has lost a lot of weight and sounds motivated to prove he isn't done yet. I still say the Central is the Reds' to lose, especially now.

This is the only time I’ve ever read a thread title and had my heart just drop praying it could mean anything else but it didn’t. What a massive blow to this team. Wainwright is one of the very best in the NL and you simply don’t replace that.

All that being said, I’d still take the Cardinals without Wainwright before the Cubs all day long.

Now we won't know the true extent of the pain or injury til later today. Although it seems the worst, maybe it isn't as bad as the fears on the boards and in baseball. Hopefully it is something that can be fixed with rehab and he can play this season. Doesn't sound like the start of the season is going to happen. Keep your collective fingers crossed Cardinals fans. Sounds like a long season is on the horizon.

I'm not so sure about that. I am not predicting great things for the Cubs by any means, but when I look at both teams now I have a tough time seeing exactly why the Cardinals would be considered the superior team after this injury. I agree the Reds are the clear cut favorite with the Brewers, Cards, and Cubs all relatively equal.

Is he still 35 years old? Because if he is, then I am not sure being in shape will make a huge difference. Alfonso Soriano supposedly is really motivated too, but I am not expecting anything more than .270, 25HR, 75 RBI and fairly crappy defense. Come to think of it, those look like good estimates for Lance this year too.
