Well it looks like I won't be selling my Wainwright auto's any time soon. I'm sure the price on his cardboard will drop for the duration of his stint on the dl.

All that being said, I’d still take the Cardinals without Wainwright before the Cubs all day long.

I'm not so sure about that. I am not predicting great things for the Cubs by any means, but when I look at both teams now I have a tough time seeing exactly why the Cardinals would be considered the superior team after this injury. I agree the Reds are the clear cut favorite with the Brewers, Cards, and Cubs all relatively equal.

All you have to do is look at their lineups. The Cardinals lineup top to bottom is better and their pitching is still at least equal to the Cubs even without Wainwright. If the Cards just play up to their potential this year it should still turn out all right.

This sucks. I don't like the Cardinals but I hate to see anyone go down - especially a good guy like Wainwright.

And Gomes - ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

Twins had the same thing with Joe Nathan last year. Well, compare a top starter to a top closer. It's pretty close in how it'll affect the team. Cards better look to make a trade unless they really think they have some kid ready to step up. It sure ain't gonna be Kyle Lohse!

Can't wait til April 22nd when we someone puts one in Gomes's earhole. Wainwright being gone may have taken some competitiveness out of the Cardinals season, but this at least makes the games against the Reds more exciting!

As many of you can guess from my signature and such, Wainwright is my favorite player. I am a huge fan, and I have enjoyed collecting him for the last several years.

I am saddened by this injury, and I think it hurts the Cards more than anyone else. It is going to be a long season, and I am bummed out that my favorite player won't see the field until 2012.

Kind of ironic that I sent him a long letter just yesterday explaining why I am such as big fan--for both his skill and kindness at ST--and wishing him luck for the upcoming season.

From a collecting standpoint, I am hoping this time off allows him to check his mail and read the letters I have sent to him and maybe his prices will lower so I can enhance my collection.

Im sure 90% of all the players in that division....... Red, Brewers, Cubs etc. thought exactly what Gomes said, its baseball, its a war!

Bottom line.... Adam did it to himself!!! ......he has himself to blame if anyone is to blame. Blowing your arm out in first week of ST, throwing BP ?? OK were not talking 55 year old coach who makes $75K a year tossing BP, were talking a multi million dollar #1 starter throwing BP, not too bright of St.L...
(Bad offseason conditioning, starting ST too strong, not stretching before letting it loose, or just bad luck (mechanics, not following through because of the "L" screen, throwing sliders in BP) etc.

PS I wouldnt throw at Gomes, #1 he is an animal, and #2 its also uncalled for, he said nothing wrong at all. I said the same thing when I read the headline, Im a Giants fan and anytime you get to face a replacement over a good pitcher like Adam, its a huge advantage any opponent would LOVE! Reds, Cubs fans should be happy as hell! .......to a point

All the sudden Pujols isn't our biggest issue.

Think again. Wainwright's injury compounds the Pujols issue.

So Rosenthal thinks..That gives someone a extra 20 mil to spend. I dont think Wainos elbow will play into Alberts decision to stay or not. So no Waino and ALbert says. We dont have Waino so Im gonna bolt for the Cubs..cause every 103 years something happens there..don't think so and he will not waive his clause..He wants free agency and no team is gonna give us enough to rent him for a few months even if we are out of it most likely.
Matters not.. Who the hell is gonna beat the Phillies??

He has to blame a ligament that was hanging by a thread..this issue has been lingering for awhile..he missed his last start at end of last season for elbow issue. Just like Pujols elbow..its hanging. But his surgery would not need such long recovery. Waino's ligament has been of issue..they had it exaimed last year and it was deemed no surgical intervention at the time...not sure if they saw Dr. Andrews or not but still the same. As someone who looks at those things for a living..you dont do pre emptive surgery. Its one of those when it goes it goes..this has nothing to do with Waino.

The Cardinals hitting betrayed them down the stretch last year and there isn't much depth. In fact, it is pretty sketchy other than Pujols and Holliday. I like Rasmus but LaRussa might sabotage him. Molina is a defense stud but not a great hitter. They have average to below average players at 3B, SS, 2B and RF. They also just traded a 20 game winner for a #6 starter and required their bullpen to throw a bunch more innings. The Cards may end up being better than the Cubs, but the opposite may happen too. I think it is a coin flip.
