This may be true for the guys who actually become something. All the misses take a heavier toll on your wallet than if you were to wait and see which guys become something.

All of this feeds into instant gratification which can only drive up prices and hurt the unsuspecting.

I'm not trying to buy every thing that comes out.But its well known that its better to buy it for cheaper.Of course the next Pujols doesn't come around often but wouldn't you enjoy paying a minimal amount of money as opposed to the levels he is at now?

Also...I really don't condone paying a large amount for a card and in my mind I won't but if you had a chance to get a card of a very promising player for $200 bucks and he becomes the next big thing then you are looking at large multiples of value there so its still relatively small investment.I get these cards so I don't have to later. Not to make money on them.I also don't like the chance of them being unaffordable later on or having to wait 20 years to buy them.

Are you seriously comparing Adrian Gonzalez to Chris Shelton. ::facepalm::

Not necessarily. More like... to everyone who turns on the burners. Who's to know if anyone is going to stay hot or not?
The market is going to reflect what the market is going to reflect. Thanks for the face-palm, though. I feel so put into my place - especially coming from someone with such qualified opinions.[/quote:1jcs4vhj]

You compared Adrian Gonzalez, one of the better hitters in the league, to a one month wonder... and you are questioning the validity of MY opinions? Here, have some more ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

I don't know about the face palms but I have to agree the comparison is not valid.Adrian Gonzalez has been tearing it up for more than a couple of years now.People are just finally starting to come around. Its the whole small market team syndrome.

I understand what you are saying but I am not a guy who goes out after superfractors and red refractors.I don't spend a lot.I may load up on autos or some blues or on up but nothing too high dollar. So if, in the end they become nothing but a fizzle, I am not hurting too badly. But I can see what your saying if I were the type to spend that kind of money.I guess it just depends on your definition of a "lot of money" and what you have the ability to spend.

Adrian Gonzalez is the next Rafael Palmeiro* - quiet, unassuming and poised to put up monster numbers in relative anonymity.

I remember reading about Gonzalez being a reach No. 1 overall pick back in 2000 and being seen mostly as a Mark Grace clone as far as his hitting ability was concerned.

Here is a link http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/features/03top10s/rangers.html to Gonzalez' profile as the Texas Rangers' top prospect back in 2004.

*The Palmeiro before he was summoned to testify infront of congress and failed a subsequent steroid test.

Wow. I was joking. I could care less if people buy into Gonzalez or not. The sensitivity on these boards amaze me lately. People act like I snatched their kid at the supermarket, because I make a sarcastic remark about market trends for cards.

Seriously, though... the venom lately has been pretty shocking.

I agree, I mean look at this comment someone left me, "Thanks for the face-palm, though. I feel so put into my place - especially coming from someone with such qualified opinions." People ARE so sensitive and venomous lately.

Actually, the qualified opinions comment came from reading up on your past encounters with other members. I take it with a grain of salt.

Since your "thing" is to go around insulting people when they don't agree with you, your opinion is salty as well. Thanks for playing.

I insult people who don't agree with me? Yes.. I often disagree with people by saying "nice card!" and posting my DK maildays. You've seen right through to me... :grouphug:

"This is out of hand. Me and Adrian go out for beers and come back to this? Sheesh, let us go about being so much alike and stop arguing over it people."

Much Love,

That's more like it. Thanks, I take pride in the fact that people enjoy seeing my additions. What would a baseball card hobby board be without that kind of display?

It's all well and good, but don't act as though you are not an A-hole once in awhile.

Oh, I know I'm an "a-hole". I don't deny it. It's human nature... but part of being an a-hole is knowing that EVERYONE has a-hole opinions, and what makes them a-hole opinions is not liking what they have to say...

soooo.... take it with a grain of salt. Nothing on a message board should be taken so personally as to try to resolve it with elitist douchebaggery (not saying you.. just saying in general around here). Instead.. laugh it off and forget it.

Now, let's all sit around a campfire and play some acoustic guitar.
