I hate to disappoint you Bama fans, but this is not going to be an issue for anyone but Mr. Rogers. Auburn compliance is 100% behind Newton on this. Just some ahole trying to blackmail MSU into paying him some money. Auburn and the SEC and the NCAA have known about this for months.

The much more interesting part is that the story was pushed to be leaked by Urban Meyer.

You do realize that Cam's involvement / knowledge will make him ineligible right? The last thing I want is an Auburn on probation, so I hope that Auburn didn't pay out anything. But if you think Cam is innocent, then you should take your head out of the sand.

I just don't see ESPN going live with this story unless there is something to do it. Herb street got a lot of flack for saying that Les Miles was bound for Michigan and since then ESPN makes sure before saying something like this:

"It's to early to say but talking to sources it's going to get really bad for Auburn in the end....Cam will go on to the NFL after the season and could careless what happens...Auburn will be the school that will get hammered for this and if some of the things being said comes out to be true and Auburn knew and paid for Newton and it sure seems to be smoke there...you will be talking about killing off a program for the next 10yrs the way the NCAA will hammer them"

I always take Herbie's comments with a grain of salt, but this little tidbit from Herbstreit who has been drinking the Cam drink all year long.....

AUTaxMan, you ever drive by the Hank ? If so do you think you could pick me up 2 2010 Baybear teamsets before spring training ?

There was no involvement on Cam's part. Sorry. There just wasn't. If he was even arguably ineligible, no way Auburn would play him.

The national media is running with this non-story because it will attract a lot of viewers, but trust me, there is nothing here. That Herbie quote was not real, from what I hear. Very irresponsible if it was.

I can pick up some team sets for you.

Sorry man, there are just way too many people saying this just dismiss it.

I know you love your school and everything, but unless you are employed by the Athletic Department of AU, you have NO idea what occurred. I know War Eagle faithful and especially their bulletin boards are in complete meltdown mode over this....claiming it's an ESPN conspiracy, it's a non-story, yada yada.....but it just doesn't look good. And it's not like AU has a squeeky clean history to begin with.

I can assure you that I know a LOT more than you about the matter.

Great, wonderful....you are an Auburn fan so you probably do. However, unless you are employed by Auburn or work for the media or have some other capacity with the school....you just don't know whether something took place or not. Since it seems you are on a first name basis with "Cam", perhaps you do.

Yeah no college football loyalty here so as an outsider looking in, No chance he did not know.
If it looks like a duck........It just does not pass the smell test at the moment.

How is there no chance? What is his connection to Kenny Rogers (who is currently under NFL investigation for being a scumbag btw)? The NCAA is investigating this situation, but they aren't investigating Newton/Auburn.

I would like to think that if someone offered my services for $200K I would hear about it from somewhere. If the offer was $200K to Mississippi State I wonder how much he took to play at Auburn.

And it was reported to the SEC, and the SEC cleared Newton to play for Auburn.

My point is that it is hard for me to believe that in a world of college football recruiting violations that nobody would've contacted Cam's family to let them know what was going on if the allegations are true. It's not like this was a situation that was a communication breakdown. This is someone offering your services for $200K.

Once they found out about it, Auburn and the Newtons reported it to the SEC.

This is not so much a condemnation on the Newton family but a condemnation on the people in the know if the Newtons are innocent. You would think that someone at the SEC would've contacted the family when it happened to let them know of the allegations. It's hard for me to think that the family did not know this was happening.

Nobody is claiming that they didn't know about this. This is an old story that has been kicking around literally since the day Newton signed with Auburn. The only reason it has legs now is that Bond went public with the story (at Meyer's urging) after the matter had already been vetted by the SEC (and apparently the NCAA from Newton/Auburn's perspective). It is truly a non-story and a smear campaign put on by Meyer for recruiting purposes.

This is actually a really accurate read on the matter:

I don't know what to make of the situation, but it goes on all the time, it just so "magically" happens to good teams/players, that the NCAA wants to make a example out of, ie...USC..In today's times, in my opinion elite programs will do whatever it takes, to land the "top dog", to their program, once they are finally caught, they say "I had no idea what was going on", yeah right, and the big fat guy, wearing the red suit, that puts toys in kids homes come x-mas time, well.....maybe....lol

Point of it is, it goes on everywhere, and sooner or later, the NCAA lands the "big fish player, or university"
