Andy Reed Adamant - Kolb Starting, Not Vick

So Andy Reid is basically saying "I am a moron, and will never lead Philly to a Super Bowl title. They should have fired me when I was on the hotseat in the past. I <3 Kolb, for better and for worse...and it will be much worse".

I know it was only one game, but Vick on the field seemed to bring out a whole different Eagles team. Vick was just great to watch, and looked like his old self. He's still not one of my favorite people because of his past, but he is definitely a great football player, and appears at this moment in time to be the man best suited for the Philly QB job.

But really, I should want Kolb to be the guy if he is struggling...I'm a Cowboys fan.

There's a quarterback controversy in Philadelphia, but Eagles coach Andy Reid says that the controversy exists entirely outside the confines of the Eagles' locker room.

Reid is the decider, and he's unwavering in his decision: Kevin Kolb is his starter and Michael Vick is Kolb's backup.

"That's now what's happening," Reid said today when asked about the budding quarterback controversy, per Jordan Raanan of CSNPhilly.com. "Kevin Kolb is the No. 1 quarterback."

But Reid acknowledged that Kolb is still feeling the effects of the concussion he suffered Sunday, and he was sent home without watching film today after he failed a neurological test. That would seem to suggest that Vick will be the starter Week Two against the Lions.

And if Vick plays against the Lions like he did against the Packers, the quarterback controversy will just get more, um, controversial. This issue isn't going away, no matter how emphatic Reid is about labeling Kolb as the starter.

As a coach, you wouldn't show much faith in a guy for benching him after he gets knocked out of a game. Sure, Vick had a great half and almost won the game for the Eagles, but, Kolb beat him out coming out of camp and there is no reason to lose the QB1 job after Week 1 due to a concussion.

While Vick played well I just don't think a young QB should be pulled after 1/2 a game.

No he didn't. As soon as McNabb was traded, Reid said that Kolb was the #1 QB. No competition, no nothing. Training camp hadn't even started yet and Reid was singing Kolb's praises which was a very short song considering he only had 2 starts.

I think dementia is settling in for Reid and there's no way the Eagles owner (whose name escapes me as I'm writing this) should be allowing this. Reid should be fired for not swallowing his pride to save this team. Kolb is not a leader. He's a scared little sheep in a field of wolves. With Kolb as a starter, this team is 6-10 at best.

Vick has shown he can run this offense and I'm not just talking about with his feet.

175 yards passing, 1 touchdown, 75% completion in one half.

When he took over, the Eagles were down 20-3. While they still lost 27-20, Vick made plays, ran for first downs (including one that was stopped inside the 5), and made several tough passes that were highlighted by some great catches by Maclin and Jackson.

Kolb - non-factor who had 2 good starts last season
Vick - 3 time Pro Bowler with a jaded past who obviously hasn't missed a step

You make the decision because Reid obviously can't make the right one.

Oh, and as far as the subject, I saw Vick play a bit and while I haven't seen much of Kolb, Vick looked stellar out there.

I just think it's funny that everyone seems enamored with Vick - saying stuff like "He looks like the Vick from Atlanta" and are signing his praises.
Now correct me if I'm wrong - but a few years ago when he was doing that in Atlanta - weren't the same people and a majority of the press saying things like - "He's not a real QB" "Atlanta will never win a super bowl with Vick", etc. etc.
It's just funny that this week - he's amazing and the answer to Phi.'s problems, but a few years ago when doing the same thing he was inadequate as a starting NFL QB.


And on the whole Kolb thing - I agree after the concessions they made you have to give him more than a quarter to prove himself. That being said, after Vick's performance - I'd def. have a much shorter leash.

Aren't you comparing apples to oranges? We aren't the press. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but me personally, I thought Vick was a solid QB for Atlanta. So what if he wasn't Peyton Manning? He got the job done and to me it's just as fun watching a QB pass at will as it is to watch a QB run around making plays.

Maybe the press forgot how cool Vick's style of playing was until they saw it again. I dunno. All I know is that the guy is still a legitimate football player with a great skill set to bring to the table. I hope he gets more opportunities either with Philly or elsewhere.

I like Alex Smith. I hope the 49ers sign him for life. The way he throws a wide open 4 yard pass to his FB is amazing and should stay in San Francisco forevers.

Vince Young is similar to Vick. Both can win, just not with the greatest numbers.

(Although, Young is beginning to rely more on his arm and less on his feet - but he still has that skill.)
