I really don't get the "fan" argument. Don't the millions of "fans" watching from home matter maybe even more than the few thousand fans at the stadium? Just out of curiosity everyone complaining about Butler who would you leave off? Do you think more fans would enjoy seeing Butler? I also don't get how people can justify the crowds response. It's not even an exhibition game. It's a charity event. I mean it's one thing to boo as he steps to the plate but the entire at bat? I mean I've been watching the home run derby for alot of years and have some great memories and to me it's a shame that the memory I'll be left with is how classless the kc fans were. I also think it's a shame for kc fans that it will also be what they'll be remembered for and what most people will be talking about tomorrow.

...and the day after that no one will care. If you really want to call someone classless how about Cano himself. I mean think of all those charities that are now out of money because he couldn't hit on the road. Thanks Cano for the effort

BTW Carl, Maybe I misread somthing and attributed the "something for royals fans to cheer for" to one of the several others. Sorry

Cano is doing wonders for Kansas City! He really knows how to fire up a pitiful fanbase! Maybe more than 23k will show up for their next home game!

And they must still be pissed about that 435ft Grand Slam Cano hit into the water earlier this year.

I would like to point out, if this was at Yankee stadium and they booed Billy Buthole this would be a 50 page topic with people crying that its horrible for baseball. Carry on.

Certainly don't feel bad for Cano as he is a professional athlete and should expect to deal with crowd reaction, both good and bad.

That said, it's too bad that it continued the entire time he was hitting. Boo him when he is announced and then remember that HRD is supposed to be fun. Booing a guy the entire time sure doesn't show a whole lot of class.

I almost feel they should reserve a spot for a hometown guy every year. Justin Upton got snubbed last year in AZ, and while I don't think Butler is necessarily the best HRD material, it's a show for the fans so why not let the home crowd have their guy to cheer for?

It's almost a lose-lose. If he picks Butler, people will complain about Trumbo (a power guy) getting snubbed. If he doesn't pick Butler, people will complain about the hometown guy getting snubbed.

Too bad it can't just be each league's top 3 or 4 against each other: Hamilton/Bautista/Dunn/Encarnacion v. Braun/Beltran/McCutchen/Bruce (acknowledging that Stanton is hurt)

Or, the top guy from each division, plus a wild card: Hamilton/Bautista/Dunn/Ortiz v. Braun/Gonzalez/Desmond/Beltran (again, Stanton is hurt)

Or, US v. The World: Hamilton/Dunn/Braun/Bruce v. Bautista/Encarnacion/Beltran/Ortiz

The dude plays for the freaking Yankees. If he can't handle this...good lord he is in for a nightmare. I thought it was a bit over the top but not in the least do I feel sorry for him. His bat could have shut them up. Too bad he couldn't hit a cow in the ass with a fiddle tonight.

Geez, Billy Butler has the least amount of power on the AL team.

Butler probably could have at least hit one out in his home ballpark. ;)

The phrase for me goes from "Robinson Cano! Don't you know!" to "Robinson Cano! Hit Zero!!!!!"

I bet MLB goes back to picking the participants next year rather than the stupid captains picking their team. too much controversy and pressure for the two captains. MLB can also put in Bryce Harper every year just to make sure people tuned in, especially the women who will tune in to have an O over Harper.

Home derby is a dumb exhibition that was created for the home town crowd and boring people that have nothing better to do than to actually watch it on TV.

Home town kid should have been in it. No matter where the ASG is, a home town player should always be in the derby.

Anyway, sorry yankees fans ITT awww.gif

Cano left a couple of tickets for the next Royals game on a bench outside the stadium for a KC fan to find. He came out after the derby and there were now 10 tickets on the bench.

I would have loved to see Encarnacion in the HR Derby, he is having a career year! Did he make the AS team? Can't remember...

You guys are aware of the MAIN reason he was booed, right? Cano said he was going to take a Royal and he went back on his word. If he never said that the boos wouldn't have been anywhere near what they were.

~Don't be crazy, man! Of course they boo'd because they are just haters who are jealous. That, and the Yankees ALWAYS get picked on!~

I am surprised no one mentioned the part when he was interviewed that he "doesn't care about the fans". I know he was just referencing the Royals fans that were booing him, but I think he could have chosen a better way to say it.

Meh.....at least when we want to get high we put a little ingenuity behind it. Much like the Yankees, New York junkies think throwing money at the problem will solve everything and they blow away the competition in cocaine use ;)

Pharis, you forgot about the "nothing to cheer about" cliche too. Damn I mean it's not like we're Cubs fans!
