He is the only one I watched last night. I doubt he cares about the booing.

I didn't care for it, nor did I care for it when Prince Fielder was booed in Arizona for leaving Upton out of the Derby.

Disclosure: I’m a life-long Yankees fan and huge Robbie Cano fan.

Do I feel bad for him? No; not at all. The derby is just for entertainment purposes. He should’ve had the hometown player in there (especially after saying he would do so).

Do I feel bad for his dad? Yes; a little bit. No one wants to see their child treated negatively, so I felt a bit sad for Jose.

Do I think the KC fans were out of line? Nope. They got their point across and added a bit of entertainment to what was probably the most boring derby I can remember.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Cano got a HUGE ovation if he does something good in the game tonight. He seemed to take everything in stride last night and kept his sense of humor. I gotta think the KC fans respect that.

It’s too bad the Yanks don’t play at the Royals any more this season though, I’d like to see Robbie get some payback. Ha.

Meh.....at least when we want to get high we put a little ingenuity behind it. Much like the Yankees, New York junkies think throwing money at the problem will solve everything and they blow away the competition in cocaine use ;)

Pharis, you forgot about the "nothing to cheer about" cliche too. Damn I mean it's not like we're Cubs fans!

touche' hope the game is better than the derby was.

;)

I am glad someone brought it up. I don't know if they made a big deal about it last year during the derby because I didn't get to see it on TV, but every time "Prince Fielder" was said over the speakers in AZ last year they booed the hell out of him for leaving Upton out of the Derby. This isn't a new thing

Yeah I am a Yankee-hater and it made me feel uncomfortable and I felt bad for him and his dad. People that are saying he'll get over within seconds are wrong. Will he care about a week from now? Probably not. Did it affect him in the moment and will it the rest of the night? Most likely and isn't that what matters? It was classless, it's honestly something I expected Philly or NY fans to do.

Great post, I agree.

To me it was terrible for baseball. I guess. If you care about the All-Star game. Will Cano do the HR Derby next year? Why would he, he's volunteering his time to entertain the fans. He would have a much nicer time in Hawaii with CC and his family. I was reading how CC showed up for the game even though he can't play, because it's fun and his oldest son wanted to go. It didn't seem like they were having much fun to me. I'm sure next year they'll opt for the time off. Who wouldn't? Last year a bunch of players skipped the AS Game and the fans complained, but why make an extra trip and do all that work for basically nothing? You can just say your hamstring hurts and collect all the accolades and bonuses that come with being an AS, and stay home and rest instead. Or hang with your family. Or go to Hawaii. Any of those things would be better than going and getting the treatment Cano got last night. Sure, there are 14,000,000 reasons for him to go out there and get booed 164 games a year, but the AS Game isn't one of them. He chose to be there for the fans.

And I think Baltimore fans really do have quite a bit to cheer for this year. They have a really good team, 5 games over .500, and 2nd place in the toughest division in baseball.

I don't think I've ever seen a "Feel Bad For a Yank" thread.

If it was ARod, half of you would have been booing the TV too.

(The GIANT "BOO CANO" sign in CF was awesome)

That's the thing. If it was Arod, who admitted to using steroids, which can be seen as cheating in a HR Derby, the boos would be warranted. I could even see it if it was a situation like when Red Sox fans booed Damon when he showed up at Fenway wearing Yankees gear. Even then, the extent that the KC fans went would have been over the top. IMO. It was too much booing for too long. Especially at a charity event that is supposed to be for fun. And that we as fans ask the players to voluntarily take time out to partake in.

Oh god, read this on another site...

Actually I heard that Robbie was seen running to the clubhouse sobbing.

He was drying his eyes with all the unsold Royals season tickets from the past 30 years.

Ha, truer words never spoken.I also find it funny so many Royals fans are XXXXXing about Butler not being chosen for the home run derby, yet they conveniantly don't give a damn about Butler or their team in the regular season (I don't care how bad they have been).I have been to several Royals games in the past, and maybe 8000 people were there. If you can't show up for the 40 or so home games since April, then stay the hell off the bandwagon when the All Star Game finally shows up at your city.

Whether it be Yankee fanatics or those like myself who despise the pinstripes and would gladly welcome a season where I didn't have to hear about them or their history at all, its all good for business

I'm sure Cano can handle it. It was what the fans did to his family in the stands is what I call lame. Yell at Cano all you want but you don't need to harass his family.
