Anyone else sick of USA cards in Bowman?

2 years of USA cards - many of them duplicates between releases. Im sure there are many but I know Nelson Rodriguez has USA autos found in both 2010 Draft & 2011 Chrome

USA inserts in:
2010 Bowman
2010 Bowman Chrome
2010 Bowman Draft
2011 Bowman - memory thinks they skipped this and put in the International cards (correct me if Im wrong)
2011 Bowman Chrome
2011 Bowman Draft
2012 Bowman - looks like they are continuing the International theme again
2012 Bowman Chrome & Draft - USA again ???

I guess my stance is it was cool in 2010, but the continuation of them in 2011 is a little overboard, and would not like them to become a staple in these products.

I like them, but the main problem is the players from the 16U set moving up to the 18U set and then to the collegiate. That duplication is annoying, but not sure how you get around it. Bottom line, they are value adds in the product and I'm glad to have it.

If anything, I'd support the 16U set coming out of BDP's base set and being included in set form like they did in BC this year. I'd rather have draft picks to fill out the set than 91-110 of the set being 16 year olds that are at least 2 years away from being drafted.

Well, Bowman is a prospect set, and USA cards are about as early as you can get of a player, so it makes sense to me. A lot of great players will develop out of these cards.

yep, its basically what their doing now with putting players who are not even in mlb yet on a card with their mlb jerseys. i know its obviously a much much lesser extent (even laughable to compare), but the t baller and the minor leaguer have each never played for the mlb team.

I get what Topps is trying to do, and in some ways it can seem like overkill, but they still have a schedule of events for the USA brand.

Bowman Chrome & Sterling - 18U
Bowman Chrome DP- 16U
Topps Chrome & Platinum - Collegiate
Boxed Set - non-chrome, on-card, patches & relics (NO 16U)

The duplicate players are something you can't do anything about, as some guys are invited back as they age and make the national team again (and again sometimes). At least they are usually the better names, which doesn't mean they sell for nothing.

Sometimes, I would love to see Topps bring back the way that Upper Deck did the USA brand, but I understand what they are trying to do. Overall it isn't as bad as you're making it out to be.

Topps is just continuing to do what they started to do in the '90s with Bowman - take players from different leagues and pull them all into a single set.

Nothing about the majority of Bowman Chrome or the entirety of BCDP is "major league".

The USA players absolutely belong and not sure why they shouldn't be in the sets.

It seems like added value to me. You still get what you get out the Major League issues, but with some added younger USA players to hold for the future.

Although the WBC cards from 2009 BCW1-20 (Chapman, Darvish, Halman) would probably more than make up for their inclusion. 2009 BC - only Cespedes really so far.

I think 16U is pushing it on kids having cards in mainstream products. What % of these will continue to play at higher levels (by choice, or just not pan out)?

Is it necessary that chrome, sterling, and platinum all have these same USA set? Yes I realize the same prospects are in all these releases, but at some point I think some of this gets watered down (and more print run).

I like the idea of keeping USA 16U to bowman draft - I would just take it a little further and only have 18U in draft and that be the USA release for the year.

I'd say that 80%+ of the rosters play at the next level, in some form. Major League level is a different story, but that's the same for all prospects.

The bottom line for Topps is revenue. Having the USA license means they are going to maximize it, while trying to keep it from being watered down. The USA schedule they have in place now works and adds value to the products. Many of the players are key names for the upcoming drafts, so it isn't like they are just random amateur player with no baseball future. Being selected for the USA national team is a very big deal, when you see how many players attend the trials and eventually don't make the cut.

They COULD potentially start making cards of the 14U team as well, but they aren't in the limelight like the 16U, 18U, and Collegiate players.

It would be nice if there was more consistency. Case in point 2010 Bowman Chrome USA 18U included non-auto base cards and parallels as well as autos. 2011 Bowman Chrome USA 18U was auto only and there were no non-numbered autos. At least 2010 BDPP and 2011 BDPP have treated the 16U team more or less the same.
