A little background:

My sister has worked as a volunteer in a camp called Camp Simcha, for kids with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses the last two summers. The camp is a special haven for kids with cancer and life-threatening illnesses and a truly remarkable place. 400 kids come to camp for one of the 4 two-week sessions, and each needs their own personal counselor to attend to his/her needs. The counselors are all volunteers, putting their heart and soul into their campers and camp without getting paid.

For me sister, this means a tremendous amount, and has taken on additional meaning recently when her camper from last summer passed away, losing her battle with cancer.

In memory of her camper, and to support her most recent campers and all the children in camp, she has committed to running a half-marathon, and raising $3600 for the camp. She is beginning to train and will God-willing run the half marathon in Miami this January.

In an effort to help her with the fundraising, I am holding an auction, as well as offering a card giveaway for anyone who makes a donation. Every penny that the auction nets will go to this charity and help save lives and provide hope for sick children.

The auction is for a 2004 Donruss Classics Lou Gehrig Bat/Jersey (with pinstripe) /100 (shown above.) As Gehrig was someone who passed away so young, I think it is fitting.

I know there are many people who would do not want to bid, but would consider making a donation. Any donation is wonderful, please consider donating a few bucks, but I have decided that in an effort to honor those who are contributing, as well as those who have battled cancer, I will be offering:

For a donation of $50: (10 available)
2006 Bowman Chrome Jon Lester RC Auto (as you likely know, Lester is cancer survivor himself)

For a donation of $200: (7 available)
2006 Bowman Chrome Jon Lester Blue Refractor RC Auto

For a donation of $500: (1 available)
2006 Bowman Chrome Jon Lester Orange Refractor RC Auto

(need to get scan...)

Each donation of $50 or more will also come with a personal handwritten thank-you letter.

Donations can be made directly to her page (below) or can be sent to me via Paypal and I will make a lump sum donation which will include a message about how FCB supports children with cancer and life-threatening illnesses. If you send the donation directly to the organization, please make a mention in the message section of who you are, so that there is no confusion.

Here is the link to her page:

And a link to a camp video of the camper singing an adapted version of "Waving Flags" from one of the boys sessions:

Auction will begin immediately (starting at $1) and end Monday night Sept. 10th at 10 PM.

Thank you
