Sorry for the double post. I put this scan too close to the Dodgers and missed it on the new pick up thread! This gets me closer to the "ideal" Cabrera card. I really want the archives card showing him with the 76T Traded design, but I was never able to land one at a "my" price. This will have to do, unless I can land the 76T T card later.
Cabrera.jpg

This guy was not under the radar by any means, but he was less heralded than other stars of his era. 2X MVP, 4 batting crowns, a Triple Crown winner and a 3000/500 guy. Ranks him up there with the elite for sure. In his 21st season, a shadow of his past self. Imagine what might have been if the last 7 years weren't essentially mediocre at best, compared to his first 13! He basically fell off a ledge at 34. He'd probably be in Pujols company then.

Some '88 autographs from this year. Jonah Bride finishes up all the A's Black autos from Series 1. Eck and Waldichuk finish up the base autos from Series 2 as far as I know...the checklists I have seen don't seem to be 100% complete.

Five 2023 Topps Black/72 parallels plus a straggler from 2021.

082223-3.jpg
2002 Pristine Gold Refractor Eric Chavez 21/70 gets me one away from the team set. 2012 Topps Black Scott Sizemore 59/61 completes the team set. I now only need a single A's card from the first 10 years of Topps Black parallels: the Josh Donaldson RC out of 2010 Update. I think somebody hoarded them, I saw several from the same seller on eBay a while back for outrageous asking prices. 2005 Topps Rookie Cup Red Canseco 262/499 completes the team set. And lastly there's a Luzardo Gold Refractor from 2019.

As I receive these 3 Donruss Recollection auto cards and seeing that the 2023 Topps Archives Signature edition seems to have hit the streets, it reminds me that sadly, a lot of older Fleer cards are being ignored. One downside to Fleer's early demise and they didn't have a chance to do much in the way of buyback autos that Topps, Donruss and even UD took full advantage of.

Couple cool ones. /79 auto w inscription. These were interesting because they were leftovers for Fleer because Clemens inscribed 21 when on the Jay's, but this is a Yankee card after the trade. Seller was reasonable and well below the other copies listed lately.

/22 national Pastime.

/50 big plain jersey swatch Artifacts. Sharp set, didn't have one yet. SuPer cheap shipped to my door

2003 Donruss Champions #175 Joe Torre Atlantic City 1/1 -- With the tough season as a Yankee fan, a nice reminder of better years. Love the foil, plus the Atlantic City National stamp. I've only been to two Nationals, both were in Atlantic City. Couldn't pass up a Hall of Fame 1/1 for $20, also one of the earliest 1/1 of Torre as a Yankee.

2003 Leaf Certified Mrror Black #205 Thurman Munson 1/1 -- Continuing the trend from the Alomar above. I've posted about my love of this set before, don't know what else I can say about this. Always wanted one since I saw the ad on the back of the Beckett Magazine in 2003, it only took 20 years but happy to add the Yankee Captain to my collection.

Fun mail day today. Have been a fan of RGI since my early collecting days, where me and other kids in my neighborhood would buy from them through magazine/catalog ads. I believe they sold me complete sets of T, F & D at least a couple years, in fact I specifically remember one year I got a free gift, a Stan Musial 8X10 auto. Still have it!

I bought when I think is a near complete run of their catalog/magazines, Baseball Hobby Card Report. Many of these had T-206 reprint sheets issued in them and all of the sheets are gone, but frankly, I don't care. I'd like to have minty copies of each, but I really wanted them for the fun of browsing through them. They were issues in 1983-85 range and you would crap at the prices of things (compared to today). It clearly shows that even by the mid 80s, the hobby had not quite exploded. How about Mays 8x10 autographed photos at $7 each? 19 different to choose from!

I have issue #1 coming (with cards). I have not seen any others, besides a Best of issue. I'll keep an eye open for others, but this is the stuff that keeps me collecting, memories of the past.

Also got this Tark. Tark.jpg

Really like the T206. What did you think of the SGC service? They graded about 130 t206
cards for me last year. Very accurate and speedy service.

Today brings a couple of unredeemed redemption cards. One is boring, but the other has a player image on it at least.

Not sure what Pinnacle product had the autographed memorabilia, but pulling one couldn't have been easy in 1998-99. A Ryan auto'd ball would have made for a nice prize.

I've been falling behind on my scanning but I had to show off this one:

2006 Topps Chrome Red Refractors Frank Thomas 04/90. This completes the team set and the non-Super team rainbow: base, Refractors, X-Fractors, Black Refractors, Blue Refractors, and Red Refractors. I don't have a single Superfractor from the set, go figure.
I liked the 2006 Topps Chrome set. I put together a set of the 1-330 base, a 1-330 Refractor set, and am a 221-Griffey away for a Black Refractor #d to 549 1-330 complete set and a Wainwright Auto #d to 200 for the complete 1-354 card Black Refractor set. I was doing the Blue border Refractor set and the Red# 90 Refractor sets but gave up at 138/330 Blue Borders and 124/330 Red Borders.

I just had to buy this when I saw it with BIN/BO. I have one to go with the 2 Bench radio "cans" I also have, but how scarce are these likely to be these days?!

RC HAT.jpg

Finally landed this guy. I am surprised at how expensive a lot of newer, lesser star players autos sell for when deceased HOFers can be had for less! We collectors are a loony bunch. I don't play that game very often though, so I need to be patient and score my deals eventually.THIELEN.jpg

Saw these and didn't recall them at the time. Most are fairly cheap now. Really like the design. Wish there were better players though, although the small 7 player set does have a couple HOFers and a deceased player.Toomer.png
