Topps and Bowman refractors had it. Cant tell if it's the cause but the photography always looks blurry from 01-09
2006 SP Legendary Cuts Mel Allen Cut Auto /67 -- My first ever cut autograph. I've stayed away until now, but they have grown on me lately. Seeing the lack luster cut autographs from Topps like this, and this really makes these older UD cards shine. The gold foiling, the font choices as well as the full description and small touches on the back like the microphone logo as well as the HOF logo make this card certainly worth the premium over a certified plain index card.
Mel Allen has just a dozen cut autograph releses streching from 2003 to now. All other releases are very limited and have a combined print run of 70 copies, making this the easiest to find. Within this year, there a bunch of cancelled checks, but I prefer this plain background even though the edges aren't perfectly flush.
I picked this up for my Monument Park honoree autograph run. I added a DiMaggio last year, then Munson and now Allen. I have a few more "lower-end" guys like Dickey, Stengel, McCarthy, Gomez, Ruffing to find. I will aim to get one of each of the different designs from 2001-2007 SP Legendary Cuts to complete a "type collection" of sorts. So far, I have 13 of the 37 players/managers so far with another big one on the way. I have yet to seriously chase easier guys like Willie Randolph, Guidry, Reggie as well, trying to find the perfect copy to have, whether a signed vintage card or moder on-card autograph release. The big three, Ruth, Gehrig and Jackie will take time.
