Got a couple more signed books this past week.
First, got this neat signed copy of Space by James Michener. Have wanted a signed Michener for years and glad I picked this one up for a good deal.
Neat thing about this one is that it seems to be a presentation copy of the First Edition, given by Michener to a colleague. The bookplate was typed and then signed "Jim Michener" (almost always, he signed "James Michener"). It also has his personal red-ink stamp on the bookplate. Space was one of my favorite books of his, too.
Here is the other signed book I got.
It is one more for my treasured Franklin Library Signed Editions collection. This one is Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner. Perfect condition, too. While I wanted a signed First of Angle of Repose (the book he won the Pulitzer for), those cost in the triple digits. Got this one for only $35, an absolute steal. Have read it before and it is excellent. He passed away in 1993. If you like historic fiction and non-fiction history, I strongly recommend his work:

I will be writing too John Grisham (spelling fail) for my grandpa's christmas present. It's probably over-doing it with his B-day present, but it will be a nice touch to whatever else I get him. I will probably ask for a bookplate or 2 and put it in a hardcover for him.

The Youngest Hero by Jerry B. Jenkins. He is most known for co-authoring the Left Behind series with Tim LaHaye. He also wrote sports biographies and owns the Christian Writers Guild.
The signature is personalized, but still very nice. I got it for a whopping $1.60 at Goodwill. It is a nice hardcover copy with a little wear, but really good for the price. I actually almost left it there because the personalization just says "Cathy" and not "To: Cathy." I assumed his signature was her last name so I put it back on the shelf. I decided to whip out the phone and google a pic of his signature. It looked close enough for me...

2 Goodwill pickups. I would just like to say I am trying to keep my book collection free of motivational/self help and religious books. It has nothing to do with any personal beliefs and I may make exceptions for a few authors in each category.

signed and personalized to the previous owners. The book was issued without a jacket, so it's a regular cloth-cover hardback. He is an African American and spiritual writer. He compiled some of his writings in this book and it covers a broad range of subjects from both topics.
Pat Robertson - Miracles Can Be Yours Today
It's on a signed "Ex Libris" bookplate with a good length'd note to the person it was signed to. I believe it's a motivational book which is outside my realm of interest, but he is a NY Times bestselling author and does a lot of TV work (take it for what it's worth). The jacket is a little rough so I need to clean it up

I've only added one book lately, but I was pretty excited with it. I had read that former President Jimmy Carter was a willing signer of his books ttm.
I purchased this book, http://estore.archives.gov/Carter/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=C1011 for a great price and dropped it in the mail to President Carter and just waited. (The Presidential Seal on the front cover is done in gold and looks sharp! The book comes in 2 piece box, gold foil bottom and a clear plastic top to protect it.)
A couple of months later, sure enough, my book came back signed and inscribed. He is the second president I have gotten by mail, G. W. Bush was the other. I like the fact that President Carter signed it to me, my first and last name.
I need to get back into collecting signed books, I really enjoy them.

I bought all three from the same store within about 2 weeks, so I am looking for other places to look through. I know of 2 thrift stores in town and another goodwill to check.
I haven't gotten around to sending to Grisham. My success rates have been so poor lately that I am not going to send a ton of requests anymore like I used too.

I am headed out of town on Friday to grab an OMLB. I will be stopping by Goodwill to look through their massive book section for signed stuff as well, if I have any money left over.

I got 2 signed books at Goodwill today.
I don't have them here next to me, but one is a novel, and one is non-fiction. The non-fiction one is not a book that I would like in my collection, so I may cut the sig out since the author has written sports books and keep it as a cut or do something with it.
I will get the author names and titles when I bring them in.
EDIT: Jack Seehan was the author of one. I opened the book up and it STUNK. It was awful, so I decided to cut the auto out of the book instead. Normally, I would not do this, but I didn't want the book to begin with and it stunk so bad that I just cut it and tossed the book. I am trying to get the stench out of the cut sig right now.
The second one I got was Then Came Heaven by LaVyrle Spencer. I did some research. The sig matches the only pic I could find on google. What's cool about this book is that she was born in one of my favorite MN towns, was a very good author, and this is her last published book. Unfortunately, it is a romantic novel, but it's within the lines of what I want for my collection.
I paid $5 and change overall.

One book at Saver's. I actually found it by accident. They had a TON of hardcovers, and a few paper backs slipped into the hard cover shelves. One happened to be signed by Dee Henderson.

I bought A Memoir by Barbara Bush. It was advertised as signed, but I did some digging (after I bid on it ::facepalm:: ) and found out that they put a facsimile on the title page.
I don't think I am going to send it back because it will just take time and money. The seller is not a signed book seller so it isn't like they are selling fakes.
It was worth a shot though

Haven't added to this thread in awhile, but here are two recent additions:
Got this possible First Edition of Songs of the Soul by Joaquin Miller ("The Poet of the Sierras"). Has a tipped in signature on a vintage postcard.
Also, got a pretty tough to find auto of Carl Bernstein in the sequel to All the President's Men, entitled The Final Days. Not sure why, but Bernstein is much tougher to find than Woodward. Even though this one is personalized, I am super excited to add it to my collection. If Woodward ever does a signing in my area I am going to try to get him to sign this one as well.
