Harper is probably the best baseball prospect of all time. How can he not be ranked above someone who has not established himself as a perennial all star yet (Heyward)? Harper has a better bat all around, or at least has a bat with a higher ceiling than anyone here. Regardless, it's just an opinion from one guy. Doesn't mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things.

I like the call on Stanton. I think he's a beast that is only going to start getting the recognition he deserves this year.

Are you drunk, the greatest prospect was Mantle. Harper has shown no ability to hit .300 outside a few AB's in a launching pad in AZ and in 13 Spring AB's where one board member has found a massive hitch in his swing. So what's Harper's ceiling if he hits .250 with 40 HR's, an Adam Dunn with no walking skills with a better arm. Is that the best prospect of all time. Hell for all we know he could be the next Tom Tresh who was suppost to be the next Mantle in NY.

How does he not have the ability to hit .300?

He hit .443 in a wood bat league in college. Obviously JuCo is not the caliber of pitching he will see in the Majors but as a 17 year old with a wood bat he hit .443. He also hit 31 homeruns and had an insane OPS of 1.513. Those numbers are absurd for any level of baseball, let alone a wood bat league, let alone as a 17 year old playing against college pitchers.

He hit .343 in the AFL and .389 in Spring Training. Obviously he had minimal at bats in both, but he has never hit below .300 at any level of baseball in his life. Of course he will have to prove himself at higher levels, but I just don't see how you jump to the conclusion that he will struggle to hit .300 in the future, when that has never been a problem for him before.

Agreed. Weren't the Nationals pretty up front and said from the beginning he would be playing in the minors this year?

Interesting....I hadn't heard this. Did Bryce really think he would be on the roster to start the season? I am sure the veterans on the team CAN'T WAIT for him to be in the bigs and have to baby sit his ego.....Figure it out Bryce. This isn't JUCO anymore.

My friend plays with the nationals and said he shot three players, kidnapped the children of a couple of other players and then went from hotel room to hotel room ripping off the tags on every mattress. He was also the friend with Dez Bryant who had on jeans that were too baggy. He is now being linked to Libya and may have given Gaddaffi hitting lessons.

My friend told me that.

You realize it is possible to have connections with major league teams right? Even if you don't. I saw some things in the Angels Clubhouse that I wouldn't discuss, but it sure doesn't mean I didn't see them. Why the skepticism?

So to everyone degrading me or questioning my source, just to let you know, I am in college. So you can take you're 13 year old kid comment and hush.

Now to the Harper comment, My friend's father is a member of the Washington Nationals organization, working at a high position for the Syracuse Chiefs. I was supposed to go down to ST with him but had an interview for an internship back home. He said when he went into the club house after the Nats game, Harper was in there throwing sh^t around and cursing. He then went into Riggleman's office and voiced his opinion.

After everything, he flew back to Las Vegas instead of walking 100 yards to the minor league complex for the weekend. That's how the story goes.

[quote="A_Pharis":12iloz4e]Sure. THat fire looks great when it's because he didn't make the team out of ST.

What about when it's from going "0-for" a few games and he takes it out on a water cooler in the dugout? Or a teammate that makes a smartass comment?

This is what I'm talking about. I wonder how he is going to handle that.

Well it's true that it's a bridge to cross when he gets there. Plenty of prospecting money to be made between now and then (surely). I'm sure his mental game is something that he'll hopefully get the hang of in the minors -- just a little something that allows him to distinguish between ferocity about success and ferocity at any amount of failure.[/quote:12iloz4e]

Successful ballplayers are ones who can move on from failure. We'll see if Mr. Harper has that. And if he really did have a tantrum after getting sent down after Spring Training - this could be a sign of things to come.

Who cares if he's a dick. It's not like there aren't millions of others out there meandering their way through life, including several on the interwebs.

I do disagree with BA's prediction, but who knows as no crystal ball that predicts the future currently exists to my knowledge. Personally, I think Stanton will be the best of the group due to his massive power potential and his ability to adjust.

I've heard, yes, I have one of those friends too, that Stanton is nothing short of a class act. When he came through Lexington in the SAL, he supposedly signed for everyone who wanted an autograph, even multiples. Once finished, he started jogging onto the field. A few moments later, the crowd yelled for him to come back because a little girl wanted an autograph, so he ran all the way back to the stands with a smile on his face just to sign for her. Everyone I know who saw him play said he was the nicest guy of the crop of talent to come through in 08.

~I guess we all forgot that everything you read on the internet is true~

I also dont own a single harper card and have no plans to. I guess just common sense and questioning peoples sources makes them want to protect something.

I think I know this guy's friend, he's a good dude. Guy knows most of the top guys in the minors. The guy got Montero to sign a ball for me at a game, the last person to get anything signed.

Although I agree with this, I'd also point out that it sure didn't help Albert Belle other surly players with regard to hobby popularity - and investors completely care about hobby popularity LOL.
