How can he not be ranked above someone who has not established himself as a perennial all star yet (Heyward)? Harper has a better bat all around, or at least has a bat with a higher ceiling than anyone here. Regardless, it's just an opinion from one guy. Doesn't mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things.
I like the call on Stanton. I think he's a beast that is only going to start getting the recognition he deserves this year.
Are you drunk, the greatest prospect was Mantle. Harper has shown no ability to hit .300 outside a few AB's in a launching pad in AZ and in 13 Spring AB's where one board member has found a massive hitch in his swing. So what's Harper's ceiling if he hits .250 with 40 HR's, an Adam Dunn with no walking skills with a better arm. Is that the best prospect of all time. Hell for all we know he could be the next Tom Tresh who was suppost to be the next Mantle in NY.
How does he not have the ability to hit .300?
He hit .443 in a wood bat league in college. Obviously JuCo is not the caliber of pitching he will see in the Majors but as a 17 year old with a wood bat he hit .443. He also hit 31 homeruns and had an insane OPS of 1.513. Those numbers are absurd for any level of baseball, let alone a wood bat league, let alone as a 17 year old playing against college pitchers.
He hit .343 in the AFL and .389 in Spring Training. Obviously he had minimal at bats in both, but he has never hit below .300 at any level of baseball in his life. Of course he will have to prove himself at higher levels, but I just don't see how you jump to the conclusion that he will struggle to hit .300 in the future, when that has never been a problem for him before.
