As an Orioles fan, I am happy for this news. Bartlett is a good player but he is a stereotypical Oriole signing. We are not going to sniff the playoffs if our biggest free agent signing is Jason Bartlett. We need great players, not good ones.

It's a vicious cycle. We are never going to have great players unless we develop them or overpay for them. And Angelos is still walking funny from the Albert Belle signing so that is not going to happen anytime soon. No one wants to come play for us if we suck unless the money is there. It's the reason we ended up with Mark Reynolds and not Adam Dunn or Victor Martinez. So we can't sign the big names so we sign for lesser than great or good. Same reason we might end up with Cesar as our SS again....

I honestly feel like we could've landed Mark Teixeira for 6 or 7 years if we offered him $25 million per season instead of $19 million per season, a couple million per year lower than the Yankees.

Not that Jayson Werth is going to turn the Nationals around, nor would I have paid that much money for Werth, but hopefully Angelos can take notes from his Belt buddy and see his eagerness to win and what it takes to bring high profile names to a recent historically bad team.

Can anyone explain to me how Bartlett got votes in the 2008 MVP voting? He had a .690 OPS with 1 HR and 20 SBs in 138 games. I'm confused.

It was the Rays magical year and I believe it was Garza/Bartlett first year in Tampa Bay. Many writers were saying that was the trade that turned them around and made them contenders and Bartlett was the "QB" of the infield.

Interesting twist: #Rays now say reports of Bartlett trade are premature, and no announcement is coming tonight.
