I am fairly certain you are right about this. But let me ask something. Why would they vote BEFORE THE SEASON IS OVER? Is this the 80% of the year award? Or the Minor league player of the YEAR???? Someone please explain that to me......

If they do a live chat about it, that'll definitely be one of my ?s.
Whether they answer it or not is another story. I also think they needed to wait until it's in the books.

That is a Terrible system, not just imperfect. Why not wait to post it online WHEN THE PRINT IS SHIPPED OUT then? Just stupid to announce it that early. What would you think if the MLB did it's MVP award on September 1st, is that cool? How many times have you heard that MVP's are won in the last 3 weeks of the season? Yes, I realize this award is a bit different. But Mous will be ROBBED if doesn't win this award due to the BS that baseball america voted too early...

Obviously he won't win, but I'd like to give a shoutout to Matt Moore.
Like Montero, he struggled in his first half, but dealt in the second.
200+ K's is always noteworthy. Hope he continues his dominance in Montgomery next year.

I wonder if they are actually changing their minds?
I was also going to point out that they supposedly decided a week or two ago...at which time Wil Myers was the hottest name in the Minors with his .390+ batting average, and Trout was still a very relevant name in this picture. But now Moustakas has gone crazy and his name belongs atop the list. It will be interesting to see how they decide.
I wonder what sort of awards Moore will get, if any. Pitcher of the year maybe? I can't think of anyone who was better this year who stayed in the Minors the entire season.

I decided to email Jim Callis. His reply:
In a lot of cases, if we want access to a player, we need to make the selection before the season ends. I'd submit that in very few cases does the final week matter, and our award is based on more than stats anyways. Might Moustakas have won the award if we waited? Perhaps. But I think our selection was just as deserving, if not more.

Wow.
So Myers or Trout?
Montero is in the picture I suppose but I don't see how a late season comeback which leads only to average overall numbers could override either of the aforementioned players' superb all around seasons.

He proved my point. If they would have waited, MAYBE Mous would have won it. So this award is certainly NOT fool proof, and/or not necesarily accurate. BOOOOO BA, BOOOO.
