Montero at # 5 is going to cause a stir for some here. Guaranteed.

EDIT: See?

I wonder who made this list.

I'll give you a hint, there's a big clue in the title of the thread. ;)

Brett, do you have the AAA lists as well?

Yes, but I figured I'd let people digest the AA lists first, didn't want to give people too much to chew on right now. I'll probably post them later today or tomorrow afternoon.

I was under the impression that only one writer does the League Top 20s, similar to how one writer does each Team's Top 10s. No way BA rates Montero lower than Drabek in the top 100 composite list. In fact, I'm almost positive that is the case, hence why I asked who did the list.

Ok, I thought you were doubting that this was the actual list. If you want to know, John Manual did the list, but this doesn't even mean this is how he'd rate the prospects, these lists are mostly in league context, taking into account what people within the league say.

Looks pretty bad to me (I've noticed most of these which you've posted have had me wondering who at BA was the person writing the list & who was the person holding the hat, drawing out names, & telling the writer who to jot down..could've possibly been the janitor).

People within the league apparently don't think Montero will stick at catcher and questioned his athleticism, physique, and apparently his enthusiasm. They basically think he's an all bat guy.

All Baseball America does is interview managers and scouts regarding the prospects from the league, and they rank them based on their tools and feedback. If Jesus Montero ranked #5, that means the four guys above him received better reviews and/or more impressive feedback, coupled with a more impressive skill set.

Consider it a good thing, since many #1-ranked guys do not pan out in the bigs.

Pujols never ranked #1. Corey Patterson was #2 on 2000 Top 100 list.

His one lacking tool (i.e., plate discipline) prevented him from reaching his ceiling.

That is why it is projection.

You cannot tell when a guy is going to make adjustments, although work ethic and character are indicators.

Surely, a bunch of guys ranked below him had productive careers.

Don't forget Ryan Braun was ranked #49 in the Top 100 the season before his MLB debut. Why? His D at 3rd was poor.

Prospectors are like chicks though. We did the long ball.

Montero is a stud.

But if his bat is good for 40 homers a year and a .300+ average, does it matter what he does in the field?
