His one lacking tool (i.e., plate discipline) prevented him from reaching his ceiling.

You cannot tell when a guy is going to make adjustments, although work ethic and character are indicators.
Surely, a bunch of guys ranked below him had productive careers.
Don't forget Ryan Braun was ranked #49 in the Top 100 the season before his MLB debut. Why? His D at 3rd was poor.
