Some interesting chatroom jabber came up about these two, and just curious where the board stands.

Rose's career avg took a hit in his final few seasons.

During their prime...Rose had (10) 200+ hit seasons and Boggs had (7).

I'll go with Boggs just because he's an admitted sex addict and he eats fried chicken before games

Boggs had a better eye and a better swing than Rose, generating a higher BA but for much less time. Rose was a solid hitter with a good swing, a good eye and longevity at the plate. Ultimatly, Boggs was the better pure hitter, but Rose did it for longer and with a different approach, less finess but much more grit, hustle and raw muster.

I say it's a useles debate and that it will boil down to what people consider attributes of a 'better hitter' consist of. In essence, it will become a debate about what makes for a 'better hitter' players aside. Which has been done to death here.

Having said all this, I believe longevity and carear accomplishment trump a handful of 'better' years Boggs provided, so I'll vote for Rose the hit king.

Rose had his stable of women as well.

To me, this answer is Rose. That hit total is just gaudy.

Boggs is my guy I have to vote for him. I really believe he was a better "hitter" than Rose but Rose was a better overall player.

Rose was a pretty good hitter, but a compiler. Boggs was a great hitter.

Rose without question...Boggs' mechanics may have been better...but Rose as a total package, and his results, make that an easy answer.

I'll accept this, just as long as you accept that Randy Johnson is the "strikeout king" not Nolan Ryan.

those stats really dont mean much considering pete roses last three years of trying to play when he was to old is the only thing that brought his batting average down

Sigh...

OPS+ adv = BOGGS
BA adv = BOGGS
OBP adv = BOGGS
SLG% adv = BOGGS
RC/G adv = BOGGS

Need I go further?

You should all know by now that players today suck compared to the guys from the past.

Heck, Mickey Mantle would hit .450 with 80 home runs, and 200 RBI in today's game...from the left side of the plate only.

Sandy Koufax would average 20 K per 9 IP and have an ERA under 1.00 today.

Shame on you for thinking Boggs belongs in the same sentence with Rose.
