Big joke if Aaron Hill does not start in the ASG....

The fans get to choose who they want to see in the game and they obviously don't want to see Aaron Hill.

I completely agree with you but as long as the fans are voting then we won't be seeing Aaron Hill in the All-Star game.

I do not know why we have to have this kind of thread year after year. The ASG has been a popularity contest for as long as I can remember. Hill is by no means 'popular' outside his own circle yet. And frankly, I'd be suprised to see him get voted on at all! However, I do agree the ASG should have no barring on the HFA of the WS.

Just another reason to understand stats do not equate to fame, popularity, or stardome. It's a good start, but more is required.

It comes down to this, if the fans are paying tons for seats they deserve superstars and names not a guy on a hot streak.

The fans vote who are the starters... If fans never hear of him, then they don't vote for him..
Then these "fans" need to get smarter and more into baseball.... not just vote for a player because it says Boston or NY on the jersey.
But it's the All-Star, not the All-Deserving Team.
Fans are a lot smarter than are given credit for.
How else do you think Raul Ibanez is the leading vote getter among outfielders?
Ibanez is certainly not a household name.
Or no-name Jason Bartlett in second place among shortstops?
Fans don't only vote for the famous players.
And yes, Hill deserves to start, and I'm a Rangers fan.

Shep :ugeek:

Think you're glossing over the fact that Pedroia was the MVP last year. He isn't winning just because he's on the Red Sox.

id have to disagree at least a little bit...sure hes the reigning MVP but being on the BoSox helps at least a little ;) especially when compared to that of hill. as it stands today, hill should be starting hands down with kinsler off the bench and pedroia either a fan-write in at the end of the voting or just a no-show in general.

kinda like how manny ramirez has been up in voting even though hes been caught doping (last i saw he was 5th or 6th, so if he has fallen off more then...finally!!) the LA fans are making sure to keep him alive in the race cuz i know for a fact he didnt get any of my votes. lol

Im sure that helps a bit but I think the fact that he is a popular red sox player does a lot more for voting. Oh and of course he shouldn't have even won the MVP (youkilis on his own team being more deserving and several other candidates)...but thats another story

And half a year is a "HOT STREAK"

Thanks for that, I needed a good laugh.

lets see for one good job ignoring where I said superstars and NAMES, I am sure while laughing so hard that you had to type it out you missed that very important part. But yeah I consider a ROY then MVP also a silver slugger a NAME on his way to being a superstar as for Kinsler obviously someone knows his NAME or he wouldnt be on the list. I am glad you had a good laugh at your own expense it was my pleasure.

I was voting for Hill early on, but I've been writing in Zobrist lately.

Bingo!

With Maddon as the manager, Zobrist is a lock to make the team. He is clearing the most deserving, imagine his stats if he was an everyday player since the start of the season.

I'm fine with Pedroia getting the start because the outcome of the all star game means a heck of a lot more to him than Aaron Hill. Do the Blue Jays really give a damn where the world series is played?

Zobrist- 14 2b/ 16 HR .287/.404/.622 45RBI 43 R

Hill- 12 2b/ 19HR .305/.344/.512 56RBI 48R

Of course I'm a little biased, the Rays are my favorite team and Zobrist is my favorite player. However, Zorilla has done this in over 100 less ABs. He's a lock to make the team as a backup.

If they get 3 2nd basemen yes, but he won't, if he played all year he probably would though.

Joe Maddon is the manager of the team. Ben Zobrist is a lock.

Good point, even though it's not exactly right, maybe he could put him at a less deep position and keep Hill or something.

That is true. Zobrist has played and started at six positions this season. It is possible that Maddon takes him at a different spot.

Iwamura has played 44 games at 2nd. At least started and I dont follow the Rays, so maybe Zobrist has finished some of those.

From that alone, he wont make it, as the 2B pick. Maddon or not.

I was a little vague when I called Zobrist a lock. I do think he is a lock to make the team, though not necessarily as a second basemen.

Which is why the whole thing is a total joke. The "home field" idea is just dumb.

Either way, Pedroia shouldnt be anywhere near St.Louis.

Of course they do, they're only 3 games out of the wild card and they've done this with a decimated pitching staff. If they get any of them back (Halladay should be back on Monday) they will be in the playoff race.

The thing is no 2nd baseman in the AL has been better offensively than Hill and no 2nd baseman in the AL is better defensively than Hill. He should be in the ASG. Will he... that's up to the manager.
