Curious to see who everyone is high on in the prospecting world.

Give me your top 3 based on potential return on investment from 2011 Bowman Chrome Autos and then your long shot, pick to click.

1. Jurickson Profar
2. Bubba Starling
3. Archie Bradley

And my pick to click, Luis Heredia!

In terms of pure ROI, Enny Romero and Walker Weickel. Bought a bunch of each when refs were under $8 and blues under $18. Romero is a high k-rate guy in a system that builds heat pitchers. Weickel is a close to sure top 10 pick. Both have already increased 100% since release.

Those you listed...outside of Profar, none were ever exactly cheap, and I'm not sure that either will crack the $100 base auto line. I did buy a Profar Chrome for 40, but I doubt it ever cracks 80.

I bought heavily into Weickel too! I jumped on Profar Bases at $25. Bradley Blues at $75, and Bubba in my opinion won't do anything but keep rising. The kid is a unbelievable talent.

1. Felix Sterling
2. Felix Sterling
3. Felix Sterling

No, I do not necessairly think he will be a huge name, star, ace, ect... (not that I am rulig that out) but he is very young, very talented, and very cheap right now. Only cards are 2011 LEAF Metal & Valiant, both of which sell for peanuts. If he has even close to the season this year I expect, his cards should/could easily triple and quadruple in price. For a kid thats still a teenager that's approaching 100mph on his heater and has a very workable 2 pitch, it's a no brainer to me that at some point the hype (even if conservatively) will fall his way. I just do not see the likes of Harper, Profar, Moore, ect... giving that kind of % return.

By the way I'm not done buying yet, so I should just keep my trap shut and continue to pick up blues for $8 and oranges for $15...

Felix Sterling wasn't on my radar. He will be now though! Nice find...but I plan to wait to see if is one of the Autos for the 2012 Bowman Chrome...his leaf prices could be cut in half if he is.

No problem, but it's hard to cut a peanut in half, lol...

Having said that, if and when he gets any recognition I believe his 2011 LEAF cards will see a considerable spike regardless of what else is out there. In fact I think this will be a case where getting a Bowman Chrome auto will actually help his LEAF cards by adding recognation to his name!

Either way, good luck!

Have you guys been drinking the *****?
I thought it was against FCB member policy to actually share your prospecting tips?

Mine so far:
1. Profar purchased a 3 card auto lot for $60.
Flipped 2 at $50 a piece kept 1 and just picked up another
for some spare Goldschmidt Chromes.

2. Bubba Starling traded some extra ranger and Heyward autos
for a base and refractor. Cards have gone up since I traded for them.

3. Goldschmidt using his raw cards to pick up other items.
Have my PC PSA copies.

4. Matt Purke is my cheap buy. Former TCU stud was a steal for the Nats.
Wish the Rangers would have signed him.

yea, its kinda foolish to think people will share that info. They dont want even more people collecting their guy, thus pushing prices even higher for them.
I get some might but for the most part they wont.

While I agree with this in theory, I think many prospectors, myself included, would rather buy in to a higher end player with a better shot of earning any kind of ROI instead of buying into a guy that, while much cheaper, has a much smaller chance of netting you any kind of return. So while lesser name guys could give you a 100-200% ROI, they're also significantly less likely to give you any return at all. I much prefer the increased odds that I'll see a 30% ROI buying in on a guy like Bundy. I guess that's the difference between guys who go to the track and puts a small amount of money on a longshot and a guy that goes and puts big bucks on the favorite. I would probably be more willing to roll the dice on a handful of longshot, but high-ceiling, prospects if I had a bigger card budget

Well if you basing your question on CURRENT prices, I wouldn't touch Profar and wouldn't even consider Bubba.

Bubba is one of the most overhyped overpriced prospects in the minors in my opinion.

Guys who I think are great investments at current prices:

Tyler Skaggs - yep, still really damn cheap for a top 15 prospect

Andrew Cashner - Dude throws 100 and sells for pennies, and Petco will ONLY HELP

Tyler Flowers - I realize he isn't on the radar any more, but will be a starter soon, and still has big time power

Brett Jackson - Sure Fire soon to be starter for the Cubs, chrome autos at $20

They funny thing is most give it away when they post Looking to Trade For/Buy Threads.
I don't collect to turn a profit just be able to sell for more than I spent on it and get more stuff.

Agree with Keysersoze I would rather spend $200 on a Harper Bowman Chrome than spend $200 on 20 $10 scrubs.

I agree on investing into the higher probability guys. Its nice to take a flyer on a few look to hit the homerun, but high probability 30-40% profits are the way to go.

I am holding off on Profar for now...made some nice returns off of mid summer purchases

I disagree with the earlier poster on Bubba Starling. Bubba has the goods and a strong almost cult following....he has more room to run if he just verifies what people already think with some real life production

Blast from the past on Flowers, he was a big to do here back in 08 or so. Lots of power and will be given the playing time soon. Good call. I also really like Brett Jackson. My Cub that i think can explode is javier baez.

On the topic of Luis Heredia, this just posted on a Pirates Blog

- Finally, as you might have seen in the Fanposts or elsewhere, Dejan Kovacevic notes that Luis Heredia grew this offseason and is now 6-foot-7. He also quotes Heredia saying his throws 98 MPH now.

Actually here is the full quote from Dejan

Heredia is the wild card. He's still a baby at 17, but a growth spurt this offseason has him up to 6-7, 220 pounds -- suddenly taller than the rest -- before he's gotten out of rookie ball.

"I'm stronger, too," Heredia beamed. "It's 98 now, I think."

The fastball, he meant.

The Pirates made the biggest international splurge in franchise history by signing Heredia for $2.6 million out of Mexico two years ago, and it remains tantalizing -- though difficult -- to imagine what he could become.

A cross between Pineda and Felix? He might be hitting 100 consistently by 21.

Glad to see someone mention Andrew Cashner, I picked up a nice lot of him this morning based on what folks on Twitter were saying about him.
