Read this story this morning. Good for that young man and great for his teammates. I doubt everyone is happy about having a gay teammate but still, he felt confident enough to be who he is. I'm glad to see this and hopefully more gay players (which I'm sure there are) let people know. I understand when people say they don't wanna hear it or they don't care but I think it gives encouragement to the young men and women to be who they are. If Mike Trout or Bryce Harper said hey I'm gay, then what kid would feel as scared to tell their parents. I'll really be rooting for this guy! http://mlb.mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20150816&content_id=143447766&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb

MLB got over the color & international barriers, they'll get over the gay barrier. Im sure a lot of his teammates past and present already knew his sexual preference, just kept it quiet to keep the locker room in tact. It's really no ones business what he does in his private life but his.

Well so far I don't think he can but good for him! I would imagine it is a massive weight off of his shoulders which can only help him focus on what really matters....baseball.

Also, thread title made me laugh the way it's written

Damn straight! If not, we must ask Jobu to come. Take fear off bat. Don't forget the cigar and rum!

No , the prospect is not straight , he is gay... ;)

But good for anyone who for whatever reason has the opportunity to get it off their chest and breathe a lil easier.

just another barrier now broken on the way to breaking the gender barrier - while I think first MLB-affiliated female will be a woman, I think the first MLB female player will be a transgendered person.

Exactly, so what............Hey everyone, look I'm heterosexual........Does it really matter other than can he hit a curveball?

That's the point , it shouldn't matter, but it has and still does to some for reasons that it shouldn't IMO

For our overly sensitive board members, relax...it's a joke.

As long as we are talking about " firsts", the NFL published a photo from the Cardinals/Chiefs game showing the first female referee talking to the first female assistant coach.

While I wish them both luck, the photo was "screaming for a meming"!

I have a hunch if the lady ref throws a flag, she won't announce the infraction. Instead, she'll pout or throw a fit and say "You're so smart, you figure it out." :)

Great to hear this. I hope there will be a day where this will be just a normal thing and not news.

This is getting old to me. They don't announce to the world if they're hetero or bi so why in the hell make an announcement that they're gay.
I didn't read the posts so if this was just about someone who is happy, I apologize.

It's about overcoming fear. If it's not a big deal to you, that's good but I assure you it was probably a pretty big deal to this young man. As I saw someone note on another board, no one was ever beaten to death for being heterosexual, hence no need to have courage to announce that. Silly question. I agree these stories get old, but more from an annoyance that change is slow and it's even still necessary angle.
