is not using metal bats this season. The college division he is playing in allows the players to chose what they would like to use. Just something to think about when you are looking at his stats plus that he is batting against some pitchers 4 years older then him.

People will always find excuses to pick apart someone who is covered by the media like a wool blanket. And that's just the way it is, as Bruce Hornsby would say.

very cool to know he'll get a head start with the wood bat, but personally I think he could use a golf club and still
hit .600 with over 10 hrs this season.

thats false.. the conference he plays in is the SWAC.. and it requires wooden bats you do not have a choice of what bat you wanna use.

Based on what? I don't necessarily disagree with you but you can't just make a statement like that and not at least try to back it up.

He may be overrated but he is still the best long term prospect for next year's draft. It is possible to be the top guy and still be overrated- he's not as great as some want you to believe but he's still a very elite talent.

to bad they dont require high school diplomas

He does have a GED. Either way, whatever he has it was good enough to get into a college, and if he wanted to, next year he could probably transfer to any college he wanted to and get a full baseball scholarship. In fact I bet he does do that after the spring just for the added leverage in contract negotiations.

Same way I feel about him. I guess if people do not have stashes of him than they will say he sucks. I am on the fence right now with this kid and when he shows me something I will come off the fence. The kid has some talent though.

That's the thing. People are naturally haters on players like Harper. They're either pissed they didn't buy his cards earlier, pissed he won't sign autographs for them, or just simply tired of hearing about a 16 year old baseball kid. It's not like it was his decision to be on the cover of SI. It's not like he's paying scouts to say great things about him. Also, Harper isn't exactly a new phenomenon- BA has been on him for years since he played in the Area Code Games a few years ago. It's the masses that are just now learning about him.

Pretty much everyone that is hating on him has never actually seen him play or at most have seen a handful of clips of his swing on youtube. That's not even considering whether they actually have enough baseball knowledge to make informed decisions about players like this. They either assume that (a) no one is that good that young or; (b) that the kid is just a punk bastard for quitting high school and should be hated on as a result. What really gets me is the people who rip on him for "quitting" high school to go pro like it is really skin off their back. Kids do that kind of stuff all the time in pursuit of their dreams- tennis players, child actors, international baseball players (that's a whole other can of worms), soccer players, etc., and no one even thinks twice about criticizing those kids for doing the exact same thing to even more of an extreme in many cases. Bryce got his GED and is actually in college right now. It's just the way of the world.

Well we are both right sorta. Players can use either in non-conference games. With tourney play, both teams have to agree to the bat type use.

You are calling a kid a clown. He had 10x as much press to do as Taillon did.

As long as that makes you feel better about yourself, go ahead. A few years older means you are an adult. Try acting like one.
