Wow. Harper had a KILLER four games this weekend, with the exception of one.

Here are his totals.

4/23

Game 1: 2-3, 2 HR (18, 19), 7 RBI
Game 2: 2-4, HR (20), 3 RBI, SB

4/24

Game 1: 3-4, HR (21), 3 RBI, 2B, SB
Game 2: 0-3, BB, K

So overall, his stats are as follows:

.410 (64-156), 14 2B, 1 3B, 21 HR, 59 RBI, 27 BB, 29 K, 13 SB

Yet there will be people that say he is doing it against JuCo players who mostly couldnt get scholarships to play big-time college ball an were not drafted either. A few players per year do get drafted to the pros an such per year. There are success stories but Harper is playing against many poor pitchers. His stats are very impressive. I like the Homeruns with a wood bat.

+1

To me..these stats don't mean much just becuase of the talent he's playing against.

He played against better talent in HS. These #s are meaningless.

Another good weekend for him. Now he has as many BB's as strikeouts, and he raised his average by 7 points as well.

Game 2 - 1-4, RBI, BB, 2 K

5/1

Game 1 - 3-3, RBI
Game 2 - 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB

Stats so far:

.417 (70-168), 16 2B, 1 3B, 21 HR, 64 RBI, 31 BB, 31 K, 14 SB

I agree that the pitching he is facing is nothing special, but have you ever hit with a wood bat? It is significantly different. What he is doing as a 17 year old with a wood bat is amazing.

I still think that inverted knee/toe tap thing will get him eaten up at higher levels.

That timing action you speak of during his swing load has changed since the HR Derby video days. Now, he is much more like David Wright in his load action (small toe tap into extension), which is actually a pretty solid load base for a power hitter.

I haven't seen any new video, so I retract my statement then :)

It's great to see someone who is so gifted still make adjustments to get even better, most kids that age who have any success are not willing to make any changes because they think they have it all down already.

It seems he uses the exaggerated toe tap or inverted leg kick during BP and cage sessions. If he can do it, god bless him, because it's extremely hard to get consistent results with all that movement. But then again, he is a freak athlete....

New Improved Mechanics, Game footage (very much like David Wright's hitting load mechanics)

Harper played his final four regular season games this past weekend, and naturally, went out swinging for the fences.

5/7

Game 1 - 1-2, HR (22), 2 RBI, BB
Game 2 - 2-4, 2B, 3B, K

5/8

Game 1 - 1-3
Game 2 - 1-3, HR (23), 2 RBI, BB, K

His final regular season stats -

.417 (75-180), 17 2B, 2 3B, 23 HR, 68 RBI, 33 BB, 33 K, 14 SB

That's what I call a good season.

I was at the last game and for the most part he acts like a 17 year old. He painted his face all black. Very odd pre-at bat ritual also that I think he will have to change in the minors.

WTF? As in blackface? Or just too much of that under eye crap? 'Cause there's a world of difference.

Is it as 'odd' as Pablo Sandoval's ritual of bouncing himself 1/3 of the way to the pitchers mound prior to his at bat?

I got video of it. He comes to the plate. Lays the bat parallel to the plate, bends over, picks up two clumps of dirt, smacks the dirt across his hands, rubs hands, and then gets into his stance. He doesnt use batting gloves but this is something he could be doing on the on deck circle.

The Braves instructed Yunel Escobar to stop whistling and picking up dirt while on the field and tossing it behind his back after his AA season after opposing teams complained about it. It didn't sit well with his own manager Jeff Blauser and was one of the many reasons Blauser was let go.....

Also, Harper is a terrible a catcher. He has only thrown out 5 of 29 base runners and he doesn't set up very well for his pitchers. If am the Nationals, I try to sign him quickly. Send him to Instructs in early October and ask Ivan if he will come in and help for two weeks. There are a lot of rumors that is why the Nationals wanted Ivan around to begin with.... Before the end of Instructs, the Nationals should know if he can stay at catcher.
