They must be doing something right, I mean if they're business practice is so bad then why is there a 12 page thread on it?

They have many many many cards that will never ever sell and have been rotting for years on ebay. Economy is in the crapper, people getting laid off left and right. Great business model.

Because the economy is in the crapper they should just break their business model? They will not start a fire sale until they are hard up for cash, and guess what they are safe for the conceivable future. So what if some cards never sell. The only people who care are the ones wanting them to sell their cards for "ebay" market value, its not going to happen. Give it a break, we get it, many people hate them. Count those cards locked away in WOSSA vault and go look for another/

The one who gets paid with Burbanks brilliant business model is Ebay. They love it. Have a seller listing over a quarter a million monthy listings, where 2% sell at a wopping average of $15 A SALE.

eBay loves all cards and all collectibles that get sold and resold many times over... But Burbank got a hefty volume discount to sell on eBay if I'm not mistaken so Burbank isn't getting as screwed over here. Besides, they'd pass this cost to the customer anyway :)

I'm sure as many have said Burbank is great to deal with. I'm not saying in any way they are bad sellers. If they had a card I wanted and was priced right I'd buy from them. My point is the the people saying this is some great business model they have. It works for them, but 99.9 any other business it doesn't work. If any other normal business sold and average of 2% of it's inventory at $15 would go under very quick. To have product rotting on it shelf for many years with no price reduction, doesn't work for anybody else besides Burbank.

Seems that a bunch of people here are jealous that Burbank has the ability to have cards they wish to own. Sure everyone would love to have the amount and quality of Burbank but to say they have a crappy business model because they won't sell it to you for what you think is a fair price isn't really justified. I love Burbank because I know cards that I have only seen one copy of will likely be sitting there when I decide I want to add it to my collection.

I have kept slightly quiet on the Burbank bashing...I even said that I have no problem with what they do in an earlier post (see "Burbank...Where do they get their cards?")

I wish they'd be a little lower, but even a little lower I could not afford them. It sucks, you know. You want to get a good price on a card, but you want it to be "WORTH" another price. Thus the tangled web we weave...

I won't go as far as saying it's a good business model, though. It's wacky. Just think how many lifelong customers they'd get if they were close to normal!! Not only singles, but People would buy boxes....cases....from a reputable dealer. They could have a real nice reputation. Instead, I don't think they have the best reputation. They have great cards, but a bad reputation. How is that good business?

I am not whining about the prices....like I said, even a little lower I could not afford them and another Gwynn collector (or set collector) would get them. Either way I can't afford them! It's nothing that I personally sweat.

I understand the "lifelong customer" argument, but I don't think it only works in theory. I (and most buyers I know) are almost completely driven by price, given the high number of reputable sellers out there. Will I pay slightly more to buy wax from Blowout vs. some random eBay seller? Of course. But if Global or Atlanta is cheaper than Blowout, I won't hesitate a second to take the cheapest price.

Also, with the high amount of protection that buyers get from eBay and Paypal, I don't feel like I have to really trust a seller. I buy from whoever has the lowest price, and if he turns out to be a scammer, I just file for the refund.

Yes...our sole motivation for saying anything is out of pure jealousy.
