Oh man, that makes me feel so old. 30 years already?!
I remember buying Ripken's Topps, Donruss and Fleer rookies in 1985 when I started collecting seriously.
They were $5-$10 each, but I thought they were expensive for being only three years old.
Ripken was on the cover of Beckett around that time and a routine member of Beckett's "Hot List."
I wish I would have bought the '82 Topps Traded set back then.
It was so fun and exciting to be a collector in the '80s.

it really is scary to think about how we back in the early 80s thought those 1950's Topps cards were SO OLD! lol

The last box of 1982 Topps that I busted produced a mint (but OC) Ripken RC and a Pascual Perez with No Position.

I traded the Pascual Perez for 3 boxes of 1988 Topps Football (Bo Jackson RCs!!!) just before I went off to college in 1989.

When I first started actively collecting in the early 80's, a 30 year old RC of a HOF'er was a HUGE card worth some nice coin! Fast forward to today and a 30 year old RC card of a solid HOF'er like Cal is almost peanuts by comparison. Obviously the difference is part due to production but imo moreso due to the fact more people actively collected and preserved the cards for future resale. Looking forward to the future 30 years, a card from our timeline that would be 30 years old will have been specificly made for collection. Almost every single copy would/should still be available and in quality condition. Makes you wonder what the value of our generations cards will be like in 30 years...
