You're crazy.

Cool man, cool. I put my opinion out there. What did you do? Sit in your chair and wait until it looks like the Rangers will win? Congrats man, that's awesome.

In unrelated news, there should be 3 outs right now. The last thing this team needs is 4 outs. 7-2 is manageable IMO, 9-2, well not so much.

Still, I haven't followed every pitch of this year to throw the towel in right now.

You had to know this would happen.

Seriously dude, read my posts. I have said numerous times IN THIS THREAD that Scherzer has been inconsistent all year. But, he has had 2 great starts this postseason. It was up to him-if he had a good start, I love our chances. But, a potential dud of a start was completely possible. I said as much. It's simple-Max didn't do what he needed to.

I expected a win tonight, especially after giving Max a 2-0 lead. He just couldn't command the zone, gave up 9 hits/bb in under 3 innings. That is a disaster.

I think we can agree that this is a disaster. 8-)
Well, I will say this. Cruz got away with a swing when it should have been an out, and the play at 2nd later in the inning was an out.

Take those 2 calls, and it would be 4-2 if I did the math right. Inexcusable to be blowing calls at this point in the season. You can call it whining, I don't care-but that is inexcusable.

The play at 2nd was incredibly close and I cannot say it was a "blown" call. The check swing was a bad call. However, you have to overcome these things and not fall completely apart. My Cubs had an inning like this when the Bartman thing happened and they let 8 runs come in.

The idea that you "have to overcome" these things is a bit ridiculous. That call on the Cruz swing was a complete joke. Let me say it again, complete joke.

You can't give the Rangers more than 3 outs, it's simple. I understand mistakes happen, but this is the ALCS. Bad teams aren't here, nor should bad umps be here.

Oh, and there you go. We now have 4 runs, wouldn't you know.

I can take losing, but the blown calls just push a fan over the top.

And don't compare this crap to the Bartman thing. Alex Gonzalez booted a routine double play ball. That is on the Cubs. The umps didn't blow a call like we are talking about here. If we made an error, I would have to deal with it. We didn't.

No, the Bartman thing was about the moron who reached out when Hamilton went to make the catch

Now the Tigers have two runs they shouldn't have

You didn't make an error, but your pitching staff got lit up like a Roman Candle. That isn't inevitable.

You can dance around it all you want. The Bartman play has nothing to do with what we are talking about here. The umpiring was not an issue that game. Your SS booted a double play ball, that is that.

Here, we are talking about 2 blown calls by the umps. Hopefully you understand the difference. It's hard to get the Rangers out 5 times in 1 inning.

Well, folks, I might as well toss in the towel too since Leyland did so 3 innings ago.

I was wrong-although I think things were there for the taking. Scherzer just dropped the ball today, you can't give up 9 hits/bb in under 3 innings in this big of a game.

Congrats to the Rangers and their fans. The Tigers had a great year, but things just didn't go our way. Each of the first 3 games we lost were very winable. That is baseball, the Rangers made the big plays and we didn't. Such is life. This was one of the better series I have seen in a while. Even being on the losing end, it was 2 very good teams who in my opinion are very close. This is how it should be.

Should be an interesting Cards/Rangers World Series.

Going into next year, I love our chances-especially if we can add a speed threat either in the OF, or at SS/2B. We need some speed in a bad way.

I didn't realize that when a couple breaks go against you, it's automatic that a team is going to give up 9 runs in an inning. All those hits the Tigers gave up around the calls couldn't have possibly been outs. Impossible. Heck, the Tigers were clutch that they didn't give up 34 runs that inning, what with all the adversity. They deserve to go to the World Series for limiting the damage in such heroic fashion. Scherzer, Porcello, Schlereth, and Perry should all be co-ALCS MVPs. Whenever I think of clutch from now on, I'll think of how those guys performed when adversity hit.

You just don't get it, do you?

If you don't understand, I'm sorry-it's not that hard to comprehend. It really isn't.

Hey James, disaster, Roman candles, co-ALCS MVP's, clutch?

It's pretty easy to sit back and throw darts when YOUR team takes it's usual post-season hiatus. This was a very close series until the 3rd inning last night given the fact that games 2 and 4 could have went the Tigers way. Prior to last night the games were all tight and great to watch.

Hail is just trying to point out the obvious in that if the Tigers get those 2 calls, especially the one on Cruz who clearly didn't check his swing, it could have minimized the damage and possibly changed the outcome. Then of course maybe not.

The Tigers had an excellent season, there can be no doubt. They won the division for the first time in over 20 years and beat the Yankees in the playoffs. Justin Verlander finally put it all together and was the best pitcher in the game. Miguel Cabrera was excellent.

As for my point in this discussion, it's basically that when a call or two goes against you, it's going to hurt but you cannot completely fall apart. Tigers pitching gave up 6 hits and four walks in that inning. If they had kept executing pitches, the game wouldn't have gotten completely out of hand. With better pitching, maybe they come back to win, or maybe they lose a close game directly because of the calls. They didn't give themselves a chance. My point is this: the calls hurt, but the Tigers pitching staff ruined the game by not continuing to execute good pitches.

I can't argue your point-in fact, I would say it's fairly obvious that our pitchers didn't execute in that 3rd inning. It was a disaster of an inning, as bad as I've seen all year-if not the worst.

First off, the Rangers deserve to win the ALCS. They are a great team. The Tigers had as many chances in this series as you can want-Games 1/2/4 all were very, very winable. But as I have said, a great series to watch in my opinion. The Rangers just made the plays they needed to.

When it comes to the 3rd inning, here is my point: the Rangers were given 5 outs. Combined with us struggling on the mound, that is a horrible combination. Cruz's check swing, to me, was a fairly easy call. That would have given us 2 outs. Remember, Scherzer was still in the game I believe. The key was not getting into our bullpen except to use Porcello/Coke/Benoit/Valverde. Once we got to Perry/Schereth/etc we were doomed, especially that early in the game.

I think it would have been a much different game, hopefully you can understand why I would say that. However, my guess is the Rangers still win. But the fact that they were given 5 outs is a bit disturbing for a Tigers fan. Human error is part of the game, but this is the ALCS. Should be the best teams, and the best umps.

But again, I would guess the Rangers would have still won-but we will never know. I know this, it would have been a lot more interesting.
