The home plate umpire was hit in the hand so the second base umpire is calling balls and strikes from behind the pitcher.

There was one coach in little league who would do that during his team's practices. He was an extraordinarily unpleasant adult, at least to kids on other teams. He'd stand there behind the pitcher, and all I could see was him. I have no idea what I swung at. I was either scared of hitting him with the ball, or trying to hit him with the ball, but all I remember is his ray-bans, 2-day growth, ugly face, and his saying,"You're out, batter" on practically every pitch, which may not be accurate.
