Hey all, been a while since I've been here. Kind of got out of the hobby for the past year. Anyhow, a friend of a friend is selling his collection and doesn't have time to go through everything so I said suuuure I'll help and we'll split the profits. Turns out it's kind of ridiculous. He has a giant collection of personally-autographed cards from essentially every team from 1980-2000. Hundreds and hundreds of cards.

To give you an inkling, there are:

20+ Jeter (including topps and score RC's and most minor league cards)
20+ Pettitte
10-15 Rivera
10 Posada
20+ Bernie Williams
Some Lowell, El Duque, Girardi, etc...

Then a ton of all the early 90's and late 80's Yankees: Sax, Righetti, Jack McDowell, etc.

I can provide some pics if needed. Most of the autographs are in pretttty good condition.

I've never dealt with personal autos and I had a few questions so bear with me.

1. What is the best way to sell the Jeters? Send them all to JSA? Is eBay the best bet?
2. Should I do the same with the Pettitte's, Rivera's, Williams, etc? or only the rookies?
3. Should I get the cards graded as well?
4. Do any of the older 80's and early Yankees have any demand?

I'm sure I could think of more questions, but it's late and I'm tired. Any help is appreciated!

They would all have to be authenticated by a 3rd party. I don't follow that segment of the hobby, but it always seems like even the most reputable guys have some sort of mistake on their record. Someone else will chime in, I'm sure.

But, assuming they've all been authenticated, I suspect really the best way to sell a collection like that is all in one shot through an auction house like Robert Edwards or Heritage or something like that. Ebay is a total crap shoot and it'll probably take forever to sell. Single IP autos, even if authenticated, aren't appreciated very much when you get get a packed out auto. And big lots like that are for a very specific type of collector who just doesn't seem to use ebay much. But in the traditional auction houses I think a lot like this might do well.

1. Send any and all Jeter/Rivera to PSA/DNA through a group submission.
2. Send to Probstein123 to list.
3. Watch your money roll in.

Bingo.
The Pettite's and Williams I would say you need to put in effort from your own end to sell those as they would not be worth going through the consignment route and IMO IP autos from those guys aren't worth getting slabbed unless it's a super nice piece. I would recommend you make a few "Yankees lots" of the high-end guys.
By the way what an amazing time to get Jeter/Rivera pieces in.

Williams, Posada and Pettite can be authenticated by JSA's simple non-encapsulated service to keep your cost down.

Awesome. Thanks for the input fellas. Forgive me for asking, who is probstein123?

And also, should I get all the Jeter and Rivera's slabbed even if the card itself is not in great condition?

If there is a 1996 Topps Jeter (horizontal card with the trophy), I'd love to see a photo. I would be a potential buyer of a card like that if the signatures looked good. I would not need it certified or graded either.

If you can post photos of the Mariano Rivera autos I can probably tell you if they're real or not. My opinion doesn't mean much when it comes time to sell but I could weed out any fakes before you send them to get certified.

My last name is really Forge which looks even worse.

I do know Mariano autos though, if anyone ever needs an opinion on them I'm happy to help.
