I have changed my collection so many times, I don't care to count.

When I first started, I just collected Padres
Then I just collected the big names of the current players.
Then I switched and Collected only Rookies of hofers and future hofers
Then I collected HOF autos
Then I collected Reprint autos
Then I collected patches and patch autos

Each time I got discouraged, realizing it was a collection I would never be able to complete, or wasn't well defined, and I just was "all over the place".

I think I finally have defined a collection that I am happy with, and one I can complete, and one I can continue with. It is actually a combination of several different type collections, but it is pretty well defined.

Anyway, what do you collect?

I absolutely love your collection...do you collect anything else, or do you just collect those. It seems I remember at one time back on the beckett boards you collected something else as well?

Just the 05 Ultimate Signature set in baseball. I do have a very very part time football team collection of the Bills, focused on QB's but that's it.

Given the size of that set, and all the stars, that is a huge undertaking and probably one of the best sets ever made (the only set I like more is the topps archives auto), and one that I can see is very fulfilling. But what about the absence of some of the big players (williams, jackie, mantle, mays, etc...)...do you ever plan on filling that void with vintage or other cards, or are you going to always be content with not having some of the all-time greats?

Roy Oswalt primarily, along with Tim Hudson and Griffey. I also try my hand in selling RCs/prospects.

-Louisiana-born Players
-Warren Spahn and Hoyt Wilhelm

I used to collect Rollie Fingers, but I moved on from that a while back.

My main collection is Pete Rose but have drifted into HOF GU and autos and also have a few misc sets that I like the looks of 2001 leather bound and a master set of 2002 206 minis has been keeping me occupied for a few years now.

I started out collecting just Andre Dawson & Rich Hill. Now that Hill is an Oriole, that collection has fallen off, but I've recently started collecting Billy Williams and Fergie Jenkins.

The one thing that has remained constant is that I try to only collect my guys when they are pictured in a Cubs Uni.

Here are some of the reasons i gave up on other collections...

Padres collection - obvious

player collection - I am not really overly impresed with any one player deserving of so much focus (although griffey would be a good choice, if i ever were to limit to one player)

current stars - soon realized that most of the players i wanted (80s 90s guys) were mass produced, plus i found for the most part how prices mostly plummeted, after the hoopla of their best years end

Hof rookies - really enjoyed this a lot, but again, just so much out there, and many i would never be able to afford, especially in a satisfactory condition.

hof autos - enjoyed this too, but again, too many hofers i never heard of, and too many i would never be able to afford or acquire.

set collection -
Topps archives, one of my favorite collections I ever attempted. Put a good 80% of it together but after waiting well over a couple years, some just NEVER show up.

Goudey - UD FU - gets me too po'd to think about

Patches - they were cool, but the craze is kinda gone...still part of my current collection.

I will define my collection as it stands, and where I am going with it in a future posting....

Great question. Williams, Jackie, and Mantle do have cuts in the checklist, and someday I do plan to go for some of those, barring any financial disasters, and if they ever surface

But I do think that because there is a lack of some big names, I will probably add those to my PC in the future.

I am all over the place, i collect everything with no logic
THAT'S ME!
I player collect, team collect, small set collect and have now decided to try a bit of vintage collecting. I won a couple of team lots for the 1968 Topps set and figured I would see how far I could get. And believe me, I am NOT into vintage at all! I bounce around from Football to Baseball w/ no logic or reason behind ANY of it! And I love the chaos!

I collect all sorts of Astros stuff. Mainly rookies and on card autographs but anything unique.

I also have a 1990s Jeff Bagwell player collection.
