I have a PC of Walker and I'm trying to complete the 2007 Sweet Spot Classic Memorabilia set (just need the Ruth bat). I also have a team collection of the Expos but that has kinda taken a back seat for now due to the economy.

i was out of collecting from around 1995 till 2004. the 2003 diamond king set is what brought me back with a vengeance. i was building sets, collecting nomar garciaparra and piddling around in my own little world till i found bowman chrome in the fall of 2005. i built the 05 chrome set and was hooked. i went from set building to collecting "first year cards" and star players after realizing that the draft product would be better for acquiring "first year cards" of future stars. in october of 2008 i moved 99% of my prospecting stuff due to the fact that bowman chrome was destroying some of their cards value by issuing autographed cards of already released players.

these last few months have been absolutely awesome. i have traded or sold most of my parallels and inserts to acquire boston red sox, zach daeges, nomar garciaparra, chris young, mark teahan, and chris sabo. i have been grabbing some 90s inserts and building a top 50 homerun list for a nephew! i would say that 90% of my cards acquired in the last 5 months have came from a .25 box or trade. i love the fact that my collection can change how i want it and i can build it any direction that i choose... it is true freedom! i am considering building topps team sets of the red sox but have a bit of research to do yet.

Prospect and PC. However I haven't been able to prospect much other than a couple cases of draft because all my money has been spent upgrading my Canes collection. On the other hand, all my canes are prospects, lol.

i collect the texas rangers because that is my team. i live here in dallas texas so taht helps. i collect julio borbon because he's pretty cheap and i think he will be a great player. the prospects i collect consist of david price, lars anderson, angel villalona, madison bumgarner, wendell fairley, zach collier. and i am starting to collect alot of color. ALOT. and this is the greatest thing i know i can be doing. ive collected for years, but always the cards from walmart. now, i buy hobby, cases, ebay, trading on here and it opened up a whole new world. thanks guys

Is it worth differentiating prospecting and player-collecting?

Yes. There are people with massive collections of current major league players such as Eric Chavez collector.

My collecting / collection has evolved dramatically over the past 11 years when I first got back into collecting.....

In 1998, I started by collecting McGwire cards (player collection). It was my goal to get all McGwire cards. at this time I also busted a lot of boxes and accumulated a lot of stuff.

I first got into trading on the old BMB. From trading, my goals becamed more defined and refined.

Without going into all the bumps and twists and turns along the way, my collecting has a pretty strict focus today.

McGwire GU cards.....I have a real nice collection going. Probably only need less than a dozen more cards to be complete.

HOF GU cards. This part has just recently been refined. I am collecting 1 GU card of every HOFer that has one. Specifically, jerseys are top priority. If a HOFer has a jersey card, I want it. I only collect HOF bats if the player has no jersey cards. I'm at about 64%

2000 Fleer Club 3000 GU set. This is a pretty big set and a LONG project. 14 players in the set - each with 5 separate GU cards (jersey, bat, hat, bat-jersey, bat-hat-jersey). I started out strong - have all bats, all, jerseys, and all but 2 hats. Have a handful of bat-jerseys and only 2 bat-hat-jerseys. These cards are real short printed......rarely come up.

I think mine is pretty self-evident.

I used to be a player collector, but I was just bored with it, and I didn't believe in the player any more (Latrell Sprewell).

So, I started selling off my Sprewells and I said to myself "Self, what do you really like about collecting sports cards?"

And I realized that what I liked most were the neat inserts of the 90s that were die-cut and rare. I remembered the awesomeness of the Cramer's Choice inserts and never seeing these cards. The net fusion cards and the vast serial numbering.

I also thought about collecting something that regardless of what show or shop I went to, I would be able to find 1 card that would fit into my collection.

So I decided to go with 95 & newer Pacific MLB & NFL. I picked 95 because that was when Pacific went from all their inserts being Prism to having well thought out insert sets.

I don't know where I am at % wise, or really what I even have, but it's fun when someone posts some new Pacific cards that I need and I am able to work a deal with them (thanks JVC & Indymann currently, and many others previously).

Sorta long winded, but whatever :)

I have a few different collections but I clicked on my main "two".

Other - 500 HR Club GU collection, although it is complete.

Player collection - Sammy Sosa and David Wright.

However, I also collect a few star/semistar rookie cards along with those two collections.

I picked Player Collection and Other:

For Player collection, my mainstays are my Rod Carew and Jim Fregosi collections. I have collections of other players, but not that active in them. I do also collect autographs (pack certified, In Person, and Through the Mail) of Angels of the past. I am working on scanning them all, but it takes awhile!

For Other collection, I would say that I try to collect autographed cards of players from my youth (1970's-mid 1980's) who I admired. Some of them are stars, some are just regular players who I recall with fondness. No real rhyme or reason to the collection, just nostalgia for a time in my life when things made sense!

First, I collect Ken Griffey Jr on-card autographs...no stickers.
Second, I collect a few sets, 2005 immortal inscriptions and 2005 donruss signature series (silver set complete, trying for notations), griffey "rainbows" (03 SPA, 04 SPA)
Third, I also like to have a nice autograph of future HOF players. That isnt going real well, but something i would always consider if the price were right and i saw it...

Highest graded version I can afford of the best possible RC card and RC year card of Hall of Famers and future Hall of Famers.

I was just going to say I am surprised no one polled that they collect rookies....
those are my favorite!

I collect some rookies but it doesn't make up my "main" collection.
