I don't think they will trade him, I was just saying I wouldn't be surprised if it came out that they looked to move him. I mean, there is making money off him, then there is him not able to pitch effectively.

I think Bowden will have a better career. He just has more of a passion and motivation to be a good pitcher. Buchholz also has the 2nd start no hitter curse on him. I think Bowden will be a 150-180 game winner in the majors.

I certainly agree that Bowden appears to have more passion and motivation, and knows that the people controlling are the best in the business. I can't blame Buchholz for wanting to pitch in the majors and i can't say that many wouldn't do the same, but he doesn't seem passionate to be a member of the sox, at least compared to Bowden. If Bowden wins 100 games with the Sox I would be ecstatic. 100 is a lot of wins for one team

You realize that 150-180 would put him close to the top of the Red Sox all time wins list. Wakefield has 186.

I don't blame him one bit. He has nothing else to prove in the minors and, sorry New Englanders, not everyone likes Boston. He's from Texas and went to college in LA and TX. Hate to tell you guys up north but we Texans don't really like it up there. I'm sure people from NY and Boston come down here and think we are a bunch of hicks and the weather is too damn hot. A lot of people from Texas think people in the north east are pretentious and the weather is too damn cold.

Jason Hirsh was a Cali-boy that wanted out of Texas as soon as he could and that's part of the reason he was traded for Jason Jennings.

PS I've never been to the north east and have no opinion of the area or people but I know a ton of people who do and their opinions are mostly negative.

he has nothing left to prove in the bigs? Did you watch him pitch the last time he was in the bigs? Seems like your post was more of a shot at New England then about the topic of the post.

I meant minors. Sorry about the mistake.

And if he feels like he is getting ****** around by the organization (they did go out and get Smotlz and Penny when he was already in the org) why not make it known.

Gotcha. That makes more sense ;)

I spent 7 hours in an auditorium with 400 people at about 80 degrees. My brain isn't really working and I had to edit that post 10 times before I fixed all the screw ups. ::facepalm::

So what do the Sox fans think of this?

I'll start by saying that this board values prospects WAAAAY too highly and this will get immediately shot down by 99% of you guys but it is actually fairly feasible if the Sox like Masterson and Bowden as starters more than Buchholz and he really is a disgruntled minor leaguer.

You guys need a SS and some catching depth right?

Miguel Tejada and JR Towles (who is having a pretty good year in AAA) for Buchholz?

I know it's a pipe dream for me but I think it's got some merit to it if the Sox really value Masterson and Bowden higher than Buchholz and he really isn't happy in bean town.

I don't think Buchholz is higher rated than either of the pitchers you named. Masterson just is easier to use as a reliever than Clay since Clay takes a long time to warm up.

I know you are a big Buchholz/Sox fan but I don't think that proposal is TOO far fetched. Do you? You know a lot more about your team than I do.

He is still the Sox #1 rated players in the minors, and probably if he had prospect status still would be top 3 pitchers in minors overall. He is WAY higher rated than Bowden. Trading him for Towles, who would be a bench player and Tejada who is old would be a catastrophically bad trade.

2-9, 6.75 ERA as #5 starter in 2008.

That is why they got Smoltz and Penny.

They got the above two pitchers because Clay sucked last season as the fifth starter. Would he have turned it around if he pitched in the bigs to start this year, possibly. But he shouldn't be upset that the sox "bought" an insurance policy in Penny and Smoltz, and now they are going to use both of them before Clay gets the call

Well thanks for shooting down my dreams of being able to get something of value for Tejada...

I got a wee bit excited when I read the interview and the Sox have been connected to Tejada, at least according to mlbtr.
