My local card shop is going out of business, not because he isn't doing well, but because he got offered a better job and is moving out of the business before he is forced out. I went there today for about 2 hrs, and was honestly pretty upset the entire time I was there. My brother and I have been going to this shop all our lives, my brother is 23 yrs old. The shop has been in business for 18 years and the end has come.

Anyway, he has many singles that he is selling for about half BV, alot of HOF gu/autos and stuff like that. My question is is it worth it to buy HOF autos for half bv to try to resell at shows. From my experience at NY shows, dealers sell above ebay on things besides prospects (and many people sell prospects high too). My question is, is there room to resell ozzie smith, mccovey, carlton, fisk, moliter, palmer, carew, and other HOF players of the sort for 1/2 BV. Please let me get your input.

I would look up ebay prices compared to the half bv before making decisions. But if you think you could make a decent profit off of them I would definetly do that.

It all depends on the card. Crappy sticker autos are not going to sell for 60-70% book, which is what you will
have to make to make a profit. I would first cherry pick the nicer stuff, that includes popular releases like
greats of the game, archives, fan favs, heritage and ginter. Keep in mind that sets that are popular and are
collected bring a new level of buyers to a card....player collectors will already be looking for these. Newer
releases are a plus too. These message boards are a good gauge of what people are looking for. Yankees
and Red Sox are a good bet, even marginal guys like Bucky Dent and Doerr can make you good money. Once
you cherry pick his stash, talk him down. You are buying in bulk so he should adjust his price, after that
buy some more and ask it he can be any lower. Try to buy at 35-40% book, so you know half book will
still make you money. Research is a great idea as already mentioned, remember you are helping him out
by buying them, not the other way around. Good Luck
