That puts a dent in Cox's stuff, yeah? Miami isn't as good as the Cards, in terms of realizing prospect hype; or am I off on that assesment?

Agreed. Now his value will be based totally on performance without a "popular team" premium.

I'd concur. Ben Badler feels this trade means Cox's stock has gone way down. I'm still fairly high on him, though. He was blocked by Freese, so this works for him.

Cox has not really performed well in Memphis (5Ks/Walk bleh)......this gives the Cards a BP guy with a few years under his belt.

Cox really has fallen since his 2010 draft spot.

Agreed. Cox didn't even look like a starter to me any longer. Have no problem with this. Mujica had a 72K/6BB season in 2010 in 69 IP.

Wow, I didn't realize Cox's stock has dropped that low. Is my old age memory showing up again or wasn't he considered the best College hitter of that draft?

Hopefully, he re-gains his stroke and pays off for the Fish...

Looking at his numbers:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=cox---001zac

They've gone down as he has moved up each level, however, he's also done 4 levels in 3 years, so that can be expected. The encouraging thing to me, is that even though the avg & OBP is down, its been along with this agressive promotion schedule, yet he's on pace for a career high in HR's in AAA and is just 23 still.

Yes i'm now FORCED to believe in him, but i dont think there's any reason not to believe in his bat.

My quesiton is can he hold down 3b? IF so, its a major position of need for the Fish.

Jose fernandez LOMO Mike Stanton and many others disagree. If you perform above and beyond or have some hype they will sell

I am a Cox fan... I think he will be good in a couple years. Just a slight AAA slump right now.

He was maybe strongest college bat, but it was an insanely soft college bat class that year.

I personally dont like the trade. I don't see Freese being that great in a few years, he will always be an average player that fans hype because of what he did in 1 post season. Zack Cox will be an MLB player in the next year and a half 2 years. He has a pretty good glove and can hit the ball well after he adjusts at a level. The Marlins are flushing out their team and we got rid of a 1st round draft pick for a right handed reliever that will not make our bullpen much better. STL probably could have waited it out and got a Mujica type player off of waivers.
