I was looking at my fantasy team today, and realized that I have all of three of these players and it got me thinking.....Who will be the best player of this group.

They certainly have some parallels between them.

All Outfielders
All Lefthanded
And ALL three were in the vaunted 2005 BCDP.

Stats this year
Carlos Gonzalez - .326, 3 HR, 20 RBI, 4 SB

Colby Rasums - .316, 6 HR, 14 RI, 3 SB

Jay Bruce - .242, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 2 SB

SOOOOO, who would you take? Feel free to give an explanation. I know we have some big money invested in Bruce and Rasmus on these boards, so hopefully that doesn't scew the voting too bad.

I chose C.Gonzo as I judged it in term's of fantasy value (he's probably the most "well-rounded" right now & should continue to be in the future). In term's of "power" I'd take Bruce over Rasmus though Colby has shown he can handle his own & with a better OBP/average to boot!

Just my 2-cents. :D

Nothing against cargon love him as a player. But id take Rasmus or bruce. Bruce needs to figure out lefties and rasmus benefiets from a great lineup. But from an all around tools perspective Id take eith bruce or Rasmus slightly I think

Baller- wasn't Carlos Gonzalez in regular Bowman Chrome.

I like Jay Bruce but based on current stats compiled, I see no reason why he is on this list.

Carlos and Colby are much better players right now.

The only one not performing up to par is Bruce, but I think he will be the best of the three in time.

Can't go wrong with any of them. Gonzo is like a young Beltran. Rasmus is like a young Edmonds. Bruce is like a young Larry Walker.

Pick your poison.

I take Rasmus hands down. Best overall player. Power, discipline, speed, and defense at a premium position.

CarGo seriously needs to work on that plate discipline thing. Right now, I'd say he's borderline "freakish athlete that defies common beliefs," but I'd still like to see him clean everything up rather than rely on just natural ability.

This is my thought also. If I was starting a team, I would love to have all three. Personally though, I would take Carlos gonzalez. I love the Carlos Beltran comparison....

I think Gonzalez is the safest of the three to expect great things from, but I also believe he has the least star potential. Rasmus is going to put up big numbers hitting in the lineup which he does and his defense and speed are also above average. Jay Bruce has the greatest potential to fail, IMO, but he also has the greatest star potential by a significant margin. Bruce could end up as Austin Kearns or Mickey Mantle, IMO (well maybe not quite Mantle :D )

Beltran's defense shouldn't be discounted in that comparison. I'd have a real hard time taking Gonzalez out of this group with his atrocious plate discipline. I know he's hitting, but guys like Gonzalez go through too many peaks and valleys for my liking.

So far this year:

Rasmus - 76 AB, 27 K's, 18 BB - 2.81 AB'S per K

Bruce - 91 Ab, 22 K's, 11 BB - 4.14 AB's per K

Gonzalez - 95 Ab, 20 K'S, 4 bb - 4.70 Ab's per K

I would say that your concern should be more on your Boy Rasmus and HIS K-rate right now....He is striking at an alarming amount per at bat

Of the 3, I'd say Bruce has the highest ceiling, but that of the 3, Gonzalez will end up being the best player in the long term.

In the interest of full disclosure though, i do own a Gold Refractor Bruce rookie (PSA 9 - #50 of 50), and for Carlos Gonzalez, well, you know...

Ballerskrip, you have to look beyond K-Rate when it comes to CarGo.

4% BB Rate and a 21.1% K-Rate aren't pretty, especially when your'e looking at someone that is way above league average when it comes to swing-rate and barely holds onto league average when it comes to contact-rate.
13.1% Swinging Strike rate isn't pretty, at all. When I saw that he had a 76% F-Strike%, I almost shat myself.

This is anything but safe. As I said, he's not quite Vladdy -type crazy-ability, but he's close enough to make it work.

Rasmus on the other hand has shown an increased eye -- 18.8% BB-Rate won't stick (This is why you should be using K-per-PA, not AB) but I doubt he'll continue K-ing at a 35% rate either. Either way, his .67BB/K is right around career norms and I'd expect regression to be kind enough.

Like Cargo though, he's just PUNISHING Fastball-Slider guys.

Both need improvement, but Rasmus' BB-Rate is a lot more promising than anythign Cargo has to offer so far.

rasmus needs to get a big boy haircut

He got one yesterday.

I'll take Colby. Gonzalez is fantastic, but I believe Colby has more power, and Colby is more of an impact player. Jay Bruce is also great, but seems to inconsistent. I really like all 3 though.
