They just said it on MLB network. Bill Hall to the redsox in return.

This guy never quite put it together. One of the biggest dissapointments from 2002 Chrome Draft.

I'd love to see Hall put it together in Boston, for his sake.

What sucks is that he wound up at one of the few teams that could eat his terrible contract ::facepalm::

Alex Speir is saying that there will also be a Mariner prospect (as PTBNL) going to Boston in additon to Hall.

frankly, i think it is a great move for seattle. kotchman is a gold glove caliber 1b and playing everyday, it wouldn't surprise me to see him put up .285 15 85 type numbers. not the prototypical numbers for a 1b but a definite upgrade over mike carp.

I agree, I think it's a good move. It definitely beats resigning Branyan for 2-3 years. Kotchman is cheap, strikes out A LOT less and isn't currently an injury-risk.

I think Kotchman will put up solid numbers (about what you said). And if they can get that, then I think it'll be a good move.

And now despite Lopez, it's a great fielding infield and the outfield is tremendous. And on top of that...extending Gutierrez for four years...great move!

Other than the Morrow trade...I've liked just about everything Jack Z. has done.

Exactly.

How's the iron lung treating you?
Well unfortunately now that North Carolina has banned smoking in bars and restaurants, I'm not longer allowed. All of that smoke is still seeping from my lungs and therefore I'm a public nuisance.

One thing I dont understand about Kotchman is how the Angels gave up on him so easily with his dad at one time being groomed for the minor league player director. He's been with the Angels forever.... The Braves tried to pry him away also. Its not like Kotchman was terrible.

If I was an expansion franchise I would hire the Rays Jim Hoff to run my Minor League Operations with Kotchman being the director.

I don't get this move.

Simple. The Sox signed Beltre, so there's one too many corner infielders. If they can't move Lowell, he gets 3B/DH time, and maybe some 1B (if he gives it a shot in spring training).

The Mariners can give him everyday ABs, and really, what do they give up? What was Hall going to give them they can't get from another source?

I think this works from both sides. Although I never had an issue with Kotchman; I was intrigued with what he MAY be able to do for a season.

A Cuban slugger changed the landscape for Kotchman and Kendry will be a beast for years to come.

I would be completely surprised is Tom Kotchman wanted to be head of player development. Dude loves to coach, loves to teach, loves to scout. I spent some time with him in spring training in 2004 and he seemed to be a perfect fit for the role that the Angels had him in.

Also, I am not sure if it is different within other Teams, but the Angels had a Scouting director and a Head of Player Development (head of the minor leagues), and then a head of baseball operations (more administrative role). Their weren't/aren't two roles as you are stating, rather just one.
