Smoak is only hitting .247 with 3 homers in 174 at bats in AAA.aw00d05 said:Why the hell didn't they bring up Smoak, atleast he can draw a walk and not see 1-3 pitches per at bat...And Davis wasn't exactly hitting HR's at the MLB level this year either...
If he produced like he did last year I could care less, his only plus this year is his defense compared to Blalock (who sucks at 1st to say the least). I'd like to see Smoak get a shot, and he may when the rosters expand actually.Austin said:Smoak is only hitting .247 with 3 homers in 174 at bats in AAA.aw00d05 said:Why the hell didn't they bring up Smoak, atleast he can draw a walk and not see 1-3 pitches per at bat...And Davis wasn't exactly hitting HR's at the MLB level this year either...
Smoak hit well in AA, but he's bombed in AAA.
In contrast, Davis is hitting .327 with 6 homers in AAA.
But as a Rangers fan, Davis is so frustrating to watch.
I wouldn't mind the strikeouts so much if Davis was actually good like Ryan Howard or Mark Reynolds.
But Davis has been horrible.
Hopefully doing well in the minors gave him confidence, but I don't have much hope for him.
Davis was on pace for 200+ k's easily...Smoak is the 1B of the future no doubt, I kind of hope Davis does well next year and they can deal him for something good at the deadline. Blalock is terrible at first, that's the only reason I want Davis up. A big reason the Rangers aren't scoring is the lineup's Wash puts out, I don't understand how you can't play Borbon when he's batting .450 and steals bases like crazy.WJCIII said:1. He more than held his own last year, so saying he hasn't succeeded at the major league level is incorrect.
2. He was on pace to hit 30+ HR's this year despite all of the K's.
3. He's 23 and will get better.
4. He can do the same thing Blalock is doing, which is hit HR's with a low batting average, but he'll play gold glove caliber defense in the process.
5. The Rangers need to shake up the lineup, they haven't scored much all year.
6. He'll never K less than 150 times in a season, and may never hit .250, but he'll hit 40 HR a year.
Smoak is starting to find it out as of late, I hope Davis realizes that Smoak is the future and tries to change that with his performance...CAROLINA BOSOX said:I don't know for sure but I think having Davis on the same AAA team with Smoak might have slowed Smoak's hitting down some. I think Smoak may have felt some added pressure having the guy he is supposed to replace in the lineup on his team. Maybe if Davis is called up then Smoak will get hot again. I hope so.

When rosters expand I don't see why you wouldn't bring up Smoak, the MiLB season will be done, and he won't have to play he can just get a feel for what it's like to be in the majors. I'd throw him in every once in a while if Davis/Blalock suck like usual.AndruwHRJones said:aw00d05 said:Smoak is starting to find it out as of late, I hope Davis realizes that Smoak is the future and tries to change that with his performance...CAROLINA BOSOX said:I don't know for sure but I think having Davis on the same AAA team with Smoak might have slowed Smoak's hitting down some. I don't think Davis really cares one way or another about Smoak. Smoak could be gone in a trade at some point, so his future could be somewhere else. Davis is playing to find a job for himself, period.
As for not bringing up Smoak, Texas is in the playoff hunt. I doubt they want to be throwing rookies into the lineup regularly with games on the line. Borbon is doing really well and even he is not in the lineup daily. With Davis tearing up AAA, it only made sense to bring him back. He has MLB experience and he can't really do any worse than Andruw Jones has the past month or so in his starts.
You don't have to watch Davis strikeout 40% of his AB's...sportscardtheory said:I find it funny that some people would rather have the guy hitting .247 up instead of the guy hitting .330. Davis has outplayed Smoak in every facet of the game since they started playing together in AAA, and he's only less than a year older than Smoak. He is the clear choice for a call-up.

Who cares if he was on pace for 30+ homers if he was hitting .202 with only 33 rbi in 77 games.WJCIII said:Nobody is debating the K's, but you also can't debate the fact that a 23 year old kid was on pace for 30+ HR's betting eighth for his team. Throw in stellar defense, and this kid has a huge future.aw00d05 said:You don't have to watch Davis strikeout 40% of his AB's...sportscardtheory said:I find it funny that some people would rather have the guy hitting .247 up instead of the guy hitting .330. He also had only 10 doubles in half a season, which means it was homer or nothing for him.
I'm a Ranger fan and I could not stand watching Davis play.
Yes he's young, and will probably get better, but he looked worse than Rob Deer or Dave Kingman in the first half of the season.
(And I wonder how many of Davis' supporters are investors in his cards.)
Thanked.aw00d05 said:You don't have to watch Davis strikeout 40% of his AB's...sportscardtheory said:I find it funny that some people would rather have the guy hitting .247 up instead of the guy hitting .330.
