Have the people that are considering this actually been on FCB at all. Hell, we have people start threads in memoriam to recently deceased players and they end with bickering. Contributing money to a card that you will never touch, will ultimately end in fighting, and not making much (or any) profit once it is sold (and it will be sold because of said fighting) seems like a recipe for disaster.
In a perfect world maybe but better to leave this alone. Besides, at $25 per man you'd need a 500-1000 people to obtain a high grade Mantle rookie.
You're entitled to your opinion, but the worst idea ever? The poll is nearly 50-50 and many said no but would consider joining if the details are worked out. I figured that we could try to do something as a "community". Something that would unify us for a singular cause. Thanks for the input. I hope you can see the light and reconsider joining the fun, not just the profit

Ok, I'll give you maybe not the worst idea ever as the world is full of them but not a good one. Thanks. Just read what people are saying about this.Yeah, I have. A lot of people like the idea, a lot don't. This will end badly, period. You don't belong to the Optimist Club do you? I bet the fighting starts before you ever even buy the card as nobody is going to be able to agree what card to buy.I doubt it. Billions are put into mutual funds everyday without stockholder opinions. I could maybe see doing it if there were some huge upside but there simply isn't.You'll never know if you don't man up. If you think there is and can get people to put up their money then more power to you and I hope you accomplish what ever it is you are trying to accomplish but let me be the first to say this so I don't have to follow along after this goes down like the Titanic... I told you so.There were many before you that said it wouldn't work. But if it makes you feel better, you can think you were first.

Like I said earlier, more power to you and good luck as you'll need it. I'm not sure why you think we all need to be "unified towards a single goal" or what ever the hell Kumbaya moment you're trying to create but if you think you can pull this off have at it. Actually, it was in response to Chris asking for members to think of something that would "liven up" the forum. The community coming together to purchase a very nice card to possibly be the "face of FCB". It was and idea, and still is just an idea. The comment above about stockholder opinions leads me to believe you will be choosing the card to be purchased without input from your "shareholders?" Couldn't be farther from the truth. First, I have no intentions of running, picking, handling, or auctioning anything. I was just putting forth the idea and hoping someone else might want to take this on.
As far as me not knowing unless I "man up." I will know because I can just read about this Hindenburg right here on this forum (and it will be on this forum) Not necessarily. There was talk of creating a separate forum that only the participants could use and see. So it would be a possibility that you would need to join in to watch the massacre. , and second, if "man up" means putting your money on the horse with the broken leg then I'll be happy to man down. If $25 dollars is going to hurt you (.07 cents a day for the year) then I'm not sure that the other stockholders would want to deal with a nervous nellie that was reluctant to buy in.

spahnandsain said:Like I've said, I would be in. I personally have no desire to hold the actual card, too much of a chance something could go wrong in shipping between members.
Read a post where someone wanted a drawn up contract in case the card holder died. How about if that happened we donate the card to the family for expenses or college for their kids. its $25 :? . If you have any doubts don't be part of it. We need a blocked list for members. I wouldn't complain one bit about the card choice or when it is sold. I think we can work this out if everyone isn't so dramatic.
Btw I like fkw's idea about the raw prewar lot to get graded. I think we would see some serious returns.
