Cord Phelps? Where is the love?

Now before I make this post, yes I have a ton of money Phelps 50/50 PC and prospecting, that is aloud ya know. And I am a die hard Indians fan so call my post a homer post or a pimp my prospect thread don't care...

My question is why doesn't anyone talk about Cord Phelps?
The kid can hit, he is relatively quick, the power is slowly coming along and he has moved through the Indians system faster than Chisenhall and they were drafted the same year.

He split between AA and AAA last year with about equal time at both. He compiled a .308 BA and actually hit better at AAA than Akron, not only in BA but home runs, slg and ops. His walks could go up a little but still, only his second full year in the minors.

Everyone seems to over look him and go straight to Jason Kipnis. Phelps only has an 08 Donruss EEE auto and that may hurt him in the card collecting world but even on "prospect lists" he seems to be over looked.

At the Indians town hall meeting Acta/Antonetti talked about him as a super utility guy. I personally wouldn't be shocked if he's the opening day 2B.

I love the way he plays. Saw him a bunch in Akron, and Columbus. Reminds me of David Eckstien.

He was sure fun to watch in Columbus. He and Jason Donald were pretty scrappy, always dirty by the 2nd or 3rd inning. None of that ole' bullsh!t.

Cord Phelps gets overlooked because of the common tag applied to hitters from Stanford University. The system there is all about small ball, and the alumni don't generally hit for much power.

Michael Taylor was thought to be an exception, but even a big guy like him has struggled to overcome the label.

It definitely made Taylor's stuff affordable at first. Then his bat took over and the cards surged. Then he got traded and the bottom fell out. ::facepalm::

I have both the razor and contenders auto I was pointing out no Bowman card might have somehting to do with the lack of Hobby love.

And thank you Chris, didn't know that about Stanford. I'm ok with small ball if you can bat .300. I'll take a team of 6 or 7 guys that can hit for average and see if they can score some runs.

I am ok with it as well, and I would love such a guy on my team. However it doesn't translate to pre mlb card values.

Unless he is a top end pick and puts the ball out of the ball park, yes.
