I dont see an issue with it. If its something he wants to do, and he is voted in, then im sure he will be fine at it. Im sure he knows more about politics then most of the board members.

Say what you will about his opinions, he is certainly honest about his feelings and isn't afraid to have a voice even if that means taking flack for it. If people voting for him agree with his opinions then he sounds like a great politician.

That said, I disagree with a lot of what he says and wouldn't vote for him.

I doubt that the Steelers jersey plays well in Boston.

And if someone knows a lot about politics...they should probably stay out of politics and try to fix the silly system from the outside - absolutely nothing promising can be done from the inside.

The problem with this is that people will vote for him because he is Curt Schilling the baseball star...not because of what he stands for.

Schilling is already a windbag, so he's certainly qualified to be a politician.

+1

And anyone that didn't see a possible political turn in his future wasn't paying attention.

It will certainly be an interesting challenge for Schilling if he decides to run. If he did win, being compared every step of the way with Ted Kennedy could be burdensome; but then again, that will happen to whoever takes that seat. Being a famous athlete can only take you so far; when you are finally pinned down on the issues, then we see what your former fan base really thinks.

Could you imagine the crap storm if Schilling got elected? A republican taking Kennedy's seat? Holy crap! I just don't see my beloved Massholes electing a republican even if it is Schilling.

It's funny, Kennedy faught for a law in 2004 which requires the governor to call an election to fill the vacancy within 145-160 days of recieving a letter of resignation from a departing senator. Back then, he was concerned that former Governor Romney had the power to fill a vacancy left by departing democrat Senator John Kerry with a republican. Now, his dying wish was to eliminate a law that he advocated for just 5 years ago so that Democratic Governmor Deval Patrick can appoint a democratic senator to help keep the philibuster proof majority the democrats possess in Congress.

Fortunately, elections will take place in Janurary (and Schilling won't win :)), but Governor Patrick still wants to change the current law back to the original to give himself the power to name a temporary appointment, probably in light of the number of issues on the table that have yet and won't recieve bipartisan support.
