I rarely weigh in on posts of this type but after reading 20 pages of this I'm a bit put off by all the he said-she said back and forth. Everyone please remember that we are here because we collect baseball cards. This is not a forum of politics or world events, it's about baseball cards. Little pieces of cardboard that bring back a connection to the days when our mothers would have to yell at us to come in for dinner and all we wanted to do was stay out just a few minutes more and toss the ball around. Whether you're a prospector or a vintage collector, these cards are a reminder of our past and all the optimism we had before we got into the real world. We are all here to share in that common bond and to basically show off our own little piece of how we choose to hold onto the past. Most of us (me definitely included) carry signatures to show off our most prized cards and even if we don't contribute much, gain a bit of notoriety just because we have nice stuff. We all thump our chests around here and show off our stuff and revel in each others choices for collecting. Sure there is some jealousy and much too much bashing for (god forbid) not knowing baseball card etiquette (as if there is such a thing) but mostly it's a great, friendly forum which I enjoy immensely.

With all that in mind I could care less who started the site and who runs it for that matter. Do you all know who started and/or runs your favorite restaurant or car manufacturer or bank? If you did and there was some behind the scenes friction would you discontinue your use of said establishment? Would you get rid of your car if their was some tension on the board over who should actually be called the founding father of the company? I didn't think so. Who cares who is the rightful founder of this site? Who cares if Chris does or does not make a profit here? Are we charged for using this site? If not then what concern do we all have over the possible proceeds. Is the site run effectively and safe for people to use? If the answer is yes then what concern is it of ours what goes on behind the scenes?

Please let it go. I'm not on anyone's side here. I'm on my side in this one and it's that I'm happy a place exists where I can share (at 39 years old) my enjoyment of holding onto a piece of my childhood. A place where I've made some friends and a place I frequent more than most out there. Let's go back to posting about our hauls of over-priced cardboard that none of us has any business buying in the depression in which our country is currently entrenched.

Thanks for the long read...I feel like Jerry Maguire writing his mission statement.

Thank You Greg for being the voice for those of us closer to 40, than 30.

sadly, most of our community is under the age of 25, and (not that its their fault) they just wont get it

And welcome back to "Days of our Lives."

Chris, you have all of my support. I will be here as long as the site is here. FCB is many times better than any other site out there. Thanks again for the good work.

+1 and thanked. This is the most intelligent post I've read on this entire thread.

We are all here in the first place because we (many of us adults) collect rectangular pieces of cardboard (which I happen to love) but would be seriously ridiculed by most of the rest of the world. The massive bickering and drama going on right now adds to that ridicule immensely.

Because that is what successful online communities do.

For those of us on the east coast that see no need to spend card money on travel expenses,
will FCB be at the ECN?

Wow this is still going ??
just end it here every day technology gets better you use what you have until something better comes along sooner or later this site will be obsolete for a better one just the way it is and anyways why the uproar most members here are members of at least 2 or 3 other sites you get what you want from each site until a new one adds a few of those needs together then you go there
anyways move on move out or cry or grow up your choice people if need be join both boards shaking head

We dont.

We do not have to have a booth at the national.

We do not have to provide free shirts for all members who attend.

We do not need to do alot of the things that are expensive, that we do.

We do it because we love the community and wish to give back. In this time, anything card related is a luxury. Among the first things that are squashed in hard economic times. Supporting that national may not help you out directly, but our support of them may make it worthwhile for them to put on a better show next year instead of a much lesser show.

We also want to have a place that all members can come together at. Not only will a corporate booth allow us to congregate at, it will allow us to hopefully build some of the other boards.

this site is awsome. It helped us continue our love for our hobby. Whether what happened behind the scenes is between the mods and founders etc. Lets just get back to talking about cards and sports. This topic is getting to be like the fallout of Rockafella Records. Dame went one way and Jay went another. I hope gilmo and bouwob continue to push this website as far as it can go and i wish mike good luck. lets get back to talkin about why were here....baseball cards and sports. :)

when this thread reaches 50 pages lets just go back to beckett ?

23 pages of discussion on a private matter that should have never seen the light of day and should have been talked about over PM and/or personal emails?

Discussing how someone parted ways is a human resource nightmare in the real world and is always handled behind closed doors for a reason-- as this subject matter should have been,,,,,,

I don't see how any of this post relates either to FCB's stated mission goals or the intent of the boards admins/creators in creating a hobby site where people can go discuss the hobby-- this is dirt throwing at its worst,,,,,,,

Mod/admin the site how you see fit of course,,,, private matters to me are always best left between the parties involved,,,,,,not dragged out into public for some dirty laundry airing,,,,

My opinion as always,,,,

Man, what a screwy deal. Especially weird considering I was there the first night of the temporary BMB, as well as the first night on here too. There has to be something else going on that's not out in the open on Mike's side.

Sadly, this happens more often than not in business. There are plenty of founders that eventually get booted from the company they started. Obviously, this isn't on that same level, but it's the same idea at least.

I agree with others that this thread should run it's course and not be deleted. There is no reason to hide if there's nothing wrong. Hiding will only cause more suspicion.

I just hope things don't go the way of Beckett. I do think some of the original excitement and vision of the early days has faded. Hopefully, this whole deal will remind everyone of what we never wanted to be.
