I give him around $15-$20 and a card every Christmas. He brings my mail up the stairs, which he does not have to do, and puts it in my milk cabinet (I live in an apartment building). I get around 1-20 packages a day. I was just wondering if anyone else does this.

Re: Do you tip your mailperson for Chritmas

i opened a po box because my mailman was horrible. he would leave half my mail hanging out of the box so that if it rained, everything got wet. So, no, he's not getting a tip from me.

The guy makes a lot more money than I do... and I'm sure I'm not the ONLY person that tips him. I think it's fine. I guess maybe I could up it to $25.

Re: Do you tip your mailperson for Chritmas

When my mailman gives me my mail in presentable condition, meaning unripped catalogs and unripped envelopes, I'll give him a card to thank him for doing his job that comes fully equipped with government benefits.

When my mailman tries knocking before leaving a "Sorry we missed you, come get your shat at the PO" card (I have watched him do this twice), I'll give him a card to thank him for fulfilling his job description.

Until then, I am not tipping for a lack of service. Same deal as a waiter/waitress at a diner. If I don't get good service or a good attitude if they are busy and service has to suffer, they get no tip...their employer can pay them what they think they're worth.

I've never met my mailperson, usually I come home and the cards/packages are in the mailbox or at the frontdoor.

That is definitely how you do it. If they are no good, they don't deserve anything. I guess I just lucked out on a good one.

Nice Guy Eddie: C'mon, throw in a buck!
Mr. Pink: Uh-uh, I don't tip.
Nice Guy Eddie: You don't tip?
Mr. Pink: Nah, I don't believe in it.
Nice Guy Eddie: You don't believe in tipping?

Can't post the rest of the conversation, but I love that movie.

I absolutley tip my mail man and the connection I have at the PO. They take great care of me when I am at the PO, plus the take extra special care of my mail when it arrives. They even call me when I have mail that needs to be signed for so I can either pick it up or give them instructions. I also tip my UPS driver. He makes early stops in my area when I have cases coming in.

My mailman calls off everytime it rains. Seriously, it's like he's watched one too many Seinfeld episodes. So this year, he's getting an umbrella from me.

Re: Do you tip your mailperson for Chritmas

Well considering they lose my mail half the time and do nothing to figure out where they mis-delivered it and since they just put a notice in my mailbox stating it is too far away from the road (By about 1 foot) and I either move it or they will quit delivering mail to my house, I have a "steamy" tip I'd like to hurl at them.....LOL

We do. He's a really pleasant older guy. Always smiling and good for a quick conversation. We actually enjoy giving him a few bucks each year.

I always mean to, but then the holidays come and go and I forget until about February, and it feels weird then. The real problem is I have one guy about 4 days a week, but other people the other 2 days, and they seem to rotate. I don't want the part-timers to get it.
